An acne scar removal clinic Singapore visit at Dr Sin Yong’s practice begins with grading, not with a device. At Orchard Road, each scar is charted under angled light with the skin stretched, photographed under standardised lighting for the record, and assigned to the step it needs before anything is proposed. You leave with a written plan that names the sequence and the fee factors, and each stage is reviewed before the next is timed. This page walks through that visit.

Short answerThe first visit at this acne scar clinic in Singapore is an examination: scar type map by zone, the stretch test for tethering, Goodman and Baron grade, Fitzpatrick skin type and pigment history, acne activity, isotretinoin and keloid history. A written plan follows, sequenced as release, support, then resurface where the scarring is mixed. Treatment is on a later day, every step by Dr Sin Yong himself. The acne scar treatment Singapore guide explains the method; this page explains the visit.

Acne scar removal clinic Singapore: what to expect at the first visit

The first visit is a medical consultation and carries its own fee, stated when you book. It is not offset against a package and it does not oblige you to proceed. You will be asked about your acne history, whether it is still active, any isotretinoin past or present, previous scar treatments, medicines including blood thinners, cold sores, keloid or raised scarring anywhere on the body, and what you would and would not accept as a trade-off. Bring photographs of your skin over time if you have them, a list of skincare actives, and any records of earlier laser, peel or microneedling. Avoid a fresh tan in the weeks beforehand, because tanned skin changes what can be planned. Whichever acne scar clinic Singapore offers you, the same four checks apply, and the who treats acne scars in Singapore page explains them; this page is about what happens once you are here.

How the scars are graded

Dr Sin Yong reads scars under side light with the skin stretched, zone by zone, because a depression throws a shadow and the shadow’s shape tells the type. Each zone of the face is charted for ice-pick, boxcar, rolling and raised scars; most faces carry more than one type on the same cheek, which is the whole reason the map comes before the method (Jacob 2001); the acne scar treatment Singapore guide shows how each type is then matched to a tool. The skin beside each scar is stretched between two fingers: a scar that flattens or nearly disappears is held down by a fibrous band from below and will be released before any resurfacing; one that stays as a sharp pit or flat-floored dent is a depth problem instead. The Goodman and Baron grade is recorded for severity and later review. Fitzpatrick skin type and any history of marks darkening after inflammation set how densely and how deeply anything is done. Flat brown or red marks are graded at the same time as pigment and vessel questions, not scars. The seven items are listed on the acne scar assessment page.

The visit ends at a table, not a device: the plan, the sequence and the fee factors are written down and taken home.

Photographs under standardised light

Standardised clinical photographs are taken at the first assessment and at each review: front and both three-quarter views, same camera position, same light, same expression, with side lighting so depressions cast shadows. They exist for planning and for honest comparison at review, and they are part of your medical record. They are not published. Singapore’s guidelines for doctors restrict patient images in advertising, and an image chosen for display is by definition a selected one, so this site shows none. Your own photographs are reviewed with you, on screen, at each visit.

How the plan is sequenced

Where the scarring is mixed, the plan follows Dr Sin Yong’s 4D Scar Reconstruction order: release, support, then resurface. subcision divides the bands beneath tethered rolling scars first (Orentreich 1995), because resurfacing remodels skin in whatever position it finds it. Radiesse is placed into the released space where volume has been lost. TCA CROSS rebuilds narrow ice-pick tracts from the floor (Lee 2002). Resurfacing comes last, with the S3 Resurfacing Lift for deep ice-pick and boxcar scars and FSX Laser for superficial ones, where its shorter recovery than S3 matters; RF microneedling on the Secret DUO is staged where the surface calls for it. Active acne is controlled before any of this starts. The table shows how a typical mixed face is sequenced; your own plan is written for your own map.

The written plan and what it contains

You leave the first visit with a plan in writing: the treatment and the zones proposed, in plain language; the device or product named, and the consumables; whether a combination is proposed and why; the review visit that follows and what is assessed at it; and what is not included. It lists the fee factors rather than a figure chosen before examination, because a fee quoted before an examination is a price for a product, not a plan; the how fees are quoted page sets out the pattern and the what sets the fee page lists the factors for scars specifically. No package is sold on the day, no decision is required at the first visit, and the quote can be taken home. Sometimes the written plan says wait, or says that an isolated scar should be referred to a plastic surgery specialist for a punch technique; that is a normal outcome, not a failed visit.

Treatment days and reviews between stages

Treatment is on a later day, and every step is performed by Dr Sin Yong himself. Local anaesthetic is infiltrated before subcision and applied before the S3 Resurfacing Lift; numbing cream precedes FSX Laser and RF microneedling. Each stage is allowed to heal before the next is timed, and the interval is set by what the skin shows at review rather than by a calendar, which in Fitzpatrick III to V skin is the conservative choice. At each review the standardised photographs are compared, released scars are re-stretched, treated pits are remapped and any pigment change is managed early. The plan is adjusted to how your skin responds, which is why no fixed number of sessions is promised at the start. What each method’s recovery looks like is on the acne scar treatment downtime page, and the full list of every acne and scar guide on this site is one click away.

“A scar visit should end at a table, with a plan you can take home, not at a machine you are asked to pay for today.”

Dr Sin YongOn the first scar consultation

Dr Sin Yong explains

The first time I see a scarred face I do not touch a device. I turn the light to the side, stretch the skin between two fingers, and go zone by zone. That examination is most of the value of the visit, because it decides everything that follows: which scars are tethered and need release, which are narrow wells, which are shallow enough for FSX Laser and which need the S3 Resurfacing Lift. Then I write it down, with the order and what moves the fee, and you take it home. If you come back, I do every step myself and we compare the photographs at each review before deciding the next one. I would rather you leave the first visit with a clear plan and no treatment than with a treatment and no plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

At Orchard Road, Singapore, by Orchard MRT. The unit number is given on booking. Hours are Monday to Friday 10am to 8pm and Saturday 11am to 3pm. Every consultation and treatment is performed by Dr Sin Yong himself.

No. The first visit is an examination: the scars are graded under angled light with the stretch test, photographed under standardised lighting, and a written plan with fee factors is given. Treatment is on a later day. No package is sold on the day and no decision is required at the first visit.

A preliminary view, yes; a grade, no. Tethering is found by stretching the skin, pigment risk by examining it and depth by angled light in person. Photographs sent in advance help the team decide which consultation to book, and a quote is only given after Dr Sin Yong has examined you.

No. Standardised photographs are taken for planning and review and are part of your medical record. Singapore's guidelines restrict patient images in advertising, and a published image is a selected one, so this site shows none. Your own photographs are reviewed with you at each visit.

Scar work is a staged sequence rather than one visit: control, release, support, resurface and colour, with a review between stages. The number depends on which scar types are present and how your skin responds, and is set out in the written plan rather than promised at the start.

Yes. Back scars are mapped the same way and the S3 Resurfacing Lift, subcision and TCA CROSS are applied by scar type. Back skin heals differently from the face, so settings, depth and the interval between stages are chosen for it at assessment rather than copied from the facial plan.
