Body contouring:
30 questions about fat, skin and what each device reaches

Body contouring questions usually confuse three different problems: fat, loose skin and muscle separation. Each is reached by a different method, from cooling and radiofrequency (the 4K Body Lift on Secret Duo) to prescription weight-loss medication under medical supervision. These 30 brief answers link to the fuller pages.

Body contouring: the answers

Is non-surgical body contouring a weight-loss treatment?

No. It targets specific localised fat deposits rather than overall body weight, and suits people close to a stable weight with resistant pockets that diet and exercise have not shifted.

What is the difference between body contouring and liposuction?

Liposuction removes large volumes surgically. The 4K Body Lift uses radiofrequency on compact resistant fat without surgery, and the degree of change varies between individuals.

What is the difference between fat freezing and radiofrequency body sculpting?

Fat freezing cools a pinchable bulge so injured cells are cleared gradually; it does not tighten skin and carries a rare risk of lasting fat increase. Radiofrequency heats the fat layer and overlying skin, so it also addresses mild laxity.

What is the 4K Body Lift?

A radiofrequency treatment delivering energy to point zones of compact, resistant fat, increasing the metabolic activity of the targeted fat cells while tightening the overlying skin, directed at contour without surgery.

Is the 4K Body Lift the same as fat freezing?

No. Fat freezing targets fat by cooling; the 4K Body Lift uses radiofrequency to firm skin and refine contour. They address different concerns, which are clarified at consultation.

What is Onda?

A DEKA platform that works with microwave energy rather than laser light or radiofrequency, using a delivery called Coolwaves. Onda Pro is the current configuration, which adds a finer handpiece for the face.

What causes a double chin?

Four common causes: fat in the submental compartment, loss of skin elasticity, the position of the platysma muscle, and the projection of the chin and jaw. They look alike and respond to different treatments, so assessment comes first.

Is cellulite just fat, and will losing weight fix it?

Not quite. Weight loss can shrink the fat lobules and soften dimpling, but it can also worsen laxity and deepen the appearance. Cellulite and weight are related but separate problems, assessed separately.

Can stretch marks be removed completely?

No. Stretch marks are established scarring, and treatment aims at improving their appearance rather than erasing them. Early red striae generally have more scope for change than mature white ones.

Does the fat come back somewhere else after fat freezing?

Cleared cells do not regrow, but every remaining fat cell in the body still enlarges with weight gain, which can read as fat moving. A stable weight keeps the contour.

How do I know if my belly fat is visceral or under the skin?

Pinch it. A pocket you can gather between finger and thumb is subcutaneous fat, which contouring devices act on. A firm, rounded abdomen that cannot be pinched is usually visceral fat around the organs, which no external device reaches and which responds to overall weight management.

Why does stomach fat stay when the rest of me slims down?

Where fat is stored, and the order it leaves, is shaped largely by genetics, hormones, sex and age. Many people lose from the face and limbs first while a lower-abdominal or flank pocket changes little. That pinchable pocket is subcutaneous; a firm, enlarging abdomen is a medical conversation instead.

Can exercise burn fat from one specific area?

No. Fat loss is systemic: crunches strengthen the muscle under the fat, they do not burn the fat above it. Sweating dehydrates and massage moves fluid. A pocket that survives consistent diet and exercise is assessed to confirm it is fat rather than loose skin or posture before any contouring is considered.

Which areas can the 4K Body Lift treat?

The tummy and stomach, the waist and flanks, the inner and outer thighs, and the upper arms and bra-line back. It is radiofrequency on Secret Duo directed at compact, resistant fat and the skin over it. Marked loose skin or abdominal wall separation needs a different plan.

Who should not have the 4K Body Lift?

It is deferred in pregnancy and breastfeeding and where there is infection, open wounds or eczema in the zone. A pacemaker or implanted device, metal implants or threads nearby, a bleeding tendency or blood thinners, keloid tendency and poorly controlled diabetes are reviewed individually. It is not a weight-loss treatment.

What are the side effects of the 4K Body Lift?

Redness, warmth, swelling, tenderness and fine pinpoint marks from the microneedles are expected, and bruising is possible. Less common are temporary numbness or firmness, small raised bumps along the pattern, and darkening after inflammation, more likely in Fitzpatrick III to V skin. Rarely, a burn, blister, infection or uneven contour.

Does the 4K Body Lift tighten loose skin as well?

Partly. As the radiofrequency passes through the dermis to reach the fat, it is intended to stimulate collagen in the overlying skin, so it addresses the skin as well as the fat beneath. It cannot address marked loose skin, which is assessed for referral to a plastic surgery specialist.

What is the difference between Z Sculpt and fat freezing?

They act on different tissues. Z Sculpt uses electromagnetic stimulation to produce strong muscle contractions, aimed at muscle tone and contour; fat freezing cools a pinchable pocket and acts on fat alone. Neither tightens loose skin, and response to both varies between individuals.

Who should not have muscle stimulation body treatment?

Anyone with a cardiac pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, metal implants or an intrauterine device in or near the area, an abdominal wall hernia or recent surgery there, and anyone pregnant or breastfeeding. The contractions can aggravate an existing hernia, which is why it is checked first.

Will loose skin tighten on its own after weight loss?

Some recoil continues for months, more in younger skin and after slower losses. Skin that is still loose after a long period at a stable weight is a structural collagen and elastin problem, and waiting further is unlikely to change it. Elasticity is graded at assessment before any plan.

Does losing more weight make loose skin tighter?

No. The remaining fat was providing what support the stretched envelope had, so further loss usually makes the drape worse. Firming creams act on the surface only, and building muscle improves the outline without shortening skin. Skin that folds over itself is referred for surgical assessment.

How do I check for diastasis recti after pregnancy?

Lie on your back with knees bent, lift your head, and press two fingers into the midline above the navel. A gap wider than about two finger-breadths between the tensed muscle edges is worth a professional assessment. Physiotherapy-led core rehabilitation comes before any skin or fat treatment.

Can skin tightening fix a postpartum tummy on its own?

No. A persistent postpartum tummy usually has three parts: separated rectus muscles, skin that stretched faster than it can recoil, and redistributed fat. Energy-based tightening addresses only the skin layer, and tightening over an unrehabilitated wall changes little. The muscle layer starts with physiotherapy.

Are fat-dissolving injections the right double chin treatment?

Only when submental fat is the cause, and that is one of four. Skin laxity, platysma position and a short chin projection produce the same appearance and do not respond to fat-directed injections. Which is present, and it is often more than one, is established at examination first.

Read the full page →

Can you be slim and still have a double chin?

Yes. A recessed chin shortens the submental angle so the area reads as full even in someone lean, and platysma position, lax skin or a low-sitting submandibular gland can do the same. Fat is only one cause, and a single-device answer is usually the wrong one.

Can I buy weight-loss injections without a prescription in Singapore?

No. Wegovy, Mounjaro and Saxenda are prescription-only medicines regulated by HSA, prescribed after a medical assessment and supervised through titration and monitoring. HSA has warned against GLP-1 products and unapproved injectable peptides sold through unauthorised channels such as social media, where contents and dose cannot be verified.

Who should not take GLP-1 weight-loss medication?

It is not used in pregnancy or breastfeeding, and is stopped before a planned pregnancy. A personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2, previous pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, gastroparesis and a current or past eating disorder all need careful consideration, as do insulin and certain diabetes tablets.

Does weight-loss medication cause facial deflation or muscle loss?

It can. Rapid loss deflates structural facial fat, the pattern nicknamed Ozempic face, and weight lost includes muscle unless protein intake and resistance training are planned. This is why supervision includes body-composition tracking and a maintenance plan, since appetite returns when the medicine stops.

Who should not have Onda Pro body treatment?

Anyone with a pacemaker or heart implant, a deep brain or sacral nerve stimulator, or heart failure. It is postponed in pregnancy and breastfeeding, and not used with a current or recent cancer, a clotting disorder, organ transplant, kidney or liver failure, poorly controlled diabetes, or reduced sensation in the area.

What are the different grades of cellulite?

Grades 0 to III, by how visible the dimpling is at rest and when pinched or on muscle contraction. Grade I appears only on pinching, grade II is visible standing but softens lying down, grade III shows in every position. The grade guides which component, septae, fat or skin, dominates.
