What Is a Thread Lift?
A thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure in which dissolvable sutures are inserted beneath the skin using a hollow cannula. Threads mechanically lift and reposition descended tissue, while simultaneously stimulating a collagen response that maintains the effect as the threads gradually dissolve.
PDO vs. PCL Threads
PDO (polydioxanone) threads dissolve in approximately 6 months. PCL (polycaprolactone) threads are significantly more durable — taking up to 18–24 months to fully dissolve. PCL threads provide longer-lasting collagen stimulation and are increasingly preferred for their longevity. Cog threads have barbs that grip tissue for mechanical lift; smooth threads are used for collagen stimulation without lift.
Areas Thread Lifts Can Treat
Thread lifts are most commonly used on the lower face — lifting jowls, defining the jawline and improving the neck-chin transition. They can also be used for mid-face lifting (cheeks and nasolabial folds), brow lifting, and neck tightening. Thread selection and placement vectors are customised to each patient's anatomy.
How Long Do Results Last?
PDO cog thread results typically last 12–18 months. PCL threads can maintain mechanical and collagen effects for up to 24 months. Longevity depends on the number of threads placed, degree of laxity and individual tissue response.
Thread Lift vs. Energy Lifting
Thread lifts and energy-based treatments (HIFU, RF) address tissue laxity through different mechanisms and are often combined. Thread lifts provide immediate mechanical lift; energy devices stimulate deep collagen remodelling. Together they address laxity at multiple depths.
Dr Sin Yong's Bliss Lift Protocol
Dr Sin Yong performs The Bliss Lift — a thread lifting protocol using a combination of PDO cog threads and PCL smooth threads for dual mechanical and biological benefit. The protocol is designed and mapped individually at consultation.

PDO threads last approximately 12–18 months. PCL threads last 18–24 months due to slower degradation and more sustained collagen stimulation.
PDO (polydioxanone) dissolves in 6–9 months. PCL (polycaprolactone) dissolves over 18–24 months and stimulates more sustained collagen production.
Performed under local anaesthesia. Mild post-procedure soreness and thread awareness resolve within 1–2 weeks. The procedure itself is well-tolerated.
Yes — threads provide immediate mechanical lift; energy devices provide structural collagen for sustained support. Combining both gives more comprehensive and longer-lasting results.
