Morpheus8 is one brand of radiofrequency microneedling, not a different treatment. Every RF microneedling device drives fine needles to a set depth and releases radiofrequency heat in the dermis. Brands differ in needle insulation, depth range, energy delivery and tip design. Dr Sin Yong performs RF microneedling on the Secret Duo; Morpheus8 is not offered here.

No. Morpheus8 is a brand of RF microneedling device, made by InMode, and RF microneedling is the treatment it delivers. Every system in the category works the same way: an array of fine needles is driven to a chosen depth, radiofrequency current flows from or between the needles, and the heat creates controlled zones of coagulation in the dermis that the skin repairs with new collagen and elastin over the following months. The needles are the route in; the radiofrequency does the work.
The confusion is the same one described for Sylfirm X and RF microneedling: a patient is offered Morpheus8 at one clinic and RF microneedling at another, and believes they are choosing between two treatments. They are choosing between two devices with different engineering. The first question is whether RF microneedling of any brand is the right tool for the skin in front of the doctor, and that is answered by examination rather than by a brochure.
Insulation decides where along the needle the heat is released; depth range decides how far down it can be placed. Morpheus8 uses needles coated along the shaft so that energy is released from the exposed tip in the dermis or subdermal fat, and it is marketed with facial tips reaching several millimetres and a body applicator that goes deeper still. Its deeper settings are aimed at subdermal fat as well as dermal collagen, which is part of how the brand is positioned.
The Secret Duo used here offers both insulated and non-insulated cartridges, with needle depth adjustable from about 0.5 to 3.5 mm. Insulated needles spare the epidermis and concentrate heat at the tip, which matters in Fitzpatrick III to V skin where surface heating raises the risk of darkening. Non-insulated needles heat along their length, producing a broader column where that is wanted. Having both on one platform lets the choice follow the problem, zone by zone.
Depth is matched to the layer, not set as deep as possible. A shallow boxcar scar and an enlarged pore are dermal problems; early jowling sits deeper. Energy placed into fat where fat is not the target can hollow a lean face, on any device. More depth is not more result; it is a different target.
“Nothing shrinks a pore. Remodelling the collagen around it is the honest version of that promise.”
Dr Sin YongOn what dermal remodelling can and cannot do for pores
Energy delivery is where brands differ most and where the evidence is thinnest. Morpheus8 delivers bipolar radiofrequency between needles on the same tip, with a programmable burst mode that fires at more than one depth in a single insertion. Sylfirm X adds a pulsed-wave mode alongside continuous wave. Secret Duo delivers radiofrequency through its cartridges and pairs it with a 1540 nm non-ablative fractional laser on the same console, so dermal heating and a water-absorbed fractional pass can be combined in one plan.
Tip design, pin count and the pattern of insertions change how dense the coagulation zones are and how the treatment feels, but these are parameters a doctor sets rather than features that decide an outcome. The RF microneedling page sets out how depth, energy and coverage are chosen per zone. Comparative trials between branded devices are scarce; what the literature supports is RF microneedling as a modality, chiefly for atrophic acne scars, with insulated needles and conservative settings in darker skin.

Rolling and shallow boxcar acne scars, enlarged pores, uneven texture and early laxity are the shared indications, and the brand on the handpiece does not change that list. Acne scar treatment is planned by scar type: a tethered scar needs subcision before any dermal heating, a deep ice-pick scar is approached with TCA CROSS or point resurfacing, and a broad boxcar may respond to RF microneedling or fractional CO2 depending on its walls and the skin type.
Pores are a structure, and nothing shrinks one; what dermal remodelling can do is firm the collagen around the pore so it reads tighter and its shadow softens. The pore reduction page explains that limit plainly. Pigment is not a target for radiofrequency at all, and heat in a melasma-prone face is approached with care. Active acne, infection, a keloid tendency and pregnancy are reasons to defer on every platform.
Compare the plan, not the logo. Ask which cartridge or tip will be used, whether the needles are insulated, what depths are planned for which zones and why, how the energy will be set for your skin type, and what the doctor will do if darkening appears afterwards. Ask whether the person setting those parameters is the doctor who examined you. Those answers separate a considered treatment from a menu item, and they apply equally to Morpheus8, Sylfirm X and Secret Duo.
Expected effects are redness, swelling and pinpoint marks that settle; grid-pattern marks, prolonged darkening and, uncommonly, burns or tracks of textural change are the risks that settings and skin type decide. Dr Sin Yong examines the skin, performs the treatment himself and sets the fee out in writing afterwards; how fees are quoted explains what the quote covers, since Singapore's rules prevent fees being advertised.
No. Morpheus8 is described here as a brand people compare. Dr Sin Yong performs RF microneedling on the Secret Duo, which offers insulated and non-insulated cartridges and a 1540 nm non-ablative fractional laser on the same platform. Scar type, depth and skin type decide the plan.
Its body applicator is marketed to reach deeper than most facial tips, and its deeper settings are aimed at subdermal fat as well as dermis. Depth is a parameter, not a merit: a dermal scar or pore needs dermal depth, and heat placed into fat that is not the target can hollow a lean face.
No. A tethered rolling scar is held down by a fibrous band beneath the dermis, and heating the dermis from above does not release it. Subcision divides the band first; RF microneedling or resurfacing can then work on the surface that remains.
It is commonly used in Fitzpatrick III to V skin because the heat is delivered beneath the surface rather than through it, particularly with insulated needles. Settings still have to be chosen for the skin, sun exposure controlled around treatment, and darkening watched for afterwards.
No. The 1540 nm emission on the Secret Duo is a non-ablative fractional laser absorbed by water, creating columns of dermal heating through intact skin without needles. It is a separate tool on the same console, and the two can be sequenced within one plan where texture and scarring coexist.
