Suitability for Time Freeze Laser LCLR® comes down to three questions: is the problem laxity or compact fat that a laser can reach, does the area have fat to spare, and is the skin ready to be heated today. Dr Sin Yong answers them at an in-person assessment. This page sets out who tends to suit it, who should wait, and what is offered instead.

You are suitable for Time Freeze Laser LCLR® when a laser is the right tool for what has changed. The protocol runs on a long-pulsed 755 nm and 1064 nm laser. The two wavelengths have different absorption profiles and are used together, heating the dermis at several depths so that collagen contracts and then remodels. Its Sculpting mode is directed at compact fat that has sagged into the jowl, under the chin or beside the nasolabial fold, and at settled product, in zones Dr Sin Yong selects. The Time Freeze Laser LCLR® page explains the protocol; this page answers whether your face, neck or body qualifies.

It tends to suit:
It suits poorly what a laser cannot reach: marked skin excess, true ptosis of the eyelid muscle, lost volume, and a face already lean, which gains nothing from having fat taken away.
The most useful single question is how much fat each area has to spare. Dr Sin Yong reads the face by area rather than by device list: a lean or hollow area is planned with the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift, and a puffy or heavier area, with sagged fat or settled product, with Time Freeze Laser LCLR® and its Sculpting mode. Many faces have both, and Time Freeze can be used together with the VF Lift on the same face.
| What the examination finds | Time Freeze? | What is weighed instead or alongside |
|---|---|---|
| Mild to moderate laxity with compact fat along the jowl or under the chin | Yes, a main indication | Often combined with the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift |
| Loose or crepey neck skin | Yes, set conservatively on thin skin | VF Lift – Vertical Facelift; skin boosters for crepe |
| Heaviness from earlier collagen stimulator or layered filler | Yes, after ultrasound mapping | Hyaluronic acid is usually dissolved instead |
| Lean or hollow face with early laxity | Not as the lead | VF Lift – Vertical Facelift, including its Restore mode |
| Laxity of the SMAS in a face with normal fullness | Not usually | Focused ultrasound may be chosen instead |
| Marked skin excess or true eyelid ptosis | No | Referral to a plastic surgery or oculoplastic specialist |
Why the lean face is treated differently is set out on Time Freeze Laser LCLR® vs HIFU: energy that reduces fat deepens hollows where there is little to lose. Dr Sin Yong does not use HIFU or Ultherapy for lean faces, and the VF Lift is used there instead.
“If an area is lean, taking fat away is the wrong job, however good the laser. Time Freeze is for the area that is too full, not the one that is already hollow.”
Dr Sin YongOn who suits Time Freeze Laser LCLR®
Time Freeze Laser LCLR® is postponed during pregnancy, and over skin that is infected, broken or inflamed, including an active cold sore. A history of cold sores is worth mentioning, because antiviral cover may be advised. Freshly tanned or sunburnt skin is not treated: the 755 nm wavelength is absorbed by melanin, and the risk of burns and pigment change rises. Photosensitising medicines, a recent course of oral acne medication and light-sensitive conditions such as lupus are discussed before any energy is delivered.
Other points shape the plan rather than rule it out: a tendency to keloid or thick scarring, active vitiligo, melasma, and tattoos or cosmetic tattooing such as eyebrow embroidery within a treatment zone.
What can go wrong, and how it is reduced, is on the main protocol page; what recovery looks like is on Time Freeze Laser LCLR® aftercare.
Suitability is decided at consultation, after Dr Sin Yong has taken a medical history and examined your skin himself on Orchard Road. The history covers medicines, cold sores, pregnancy or breastfeeding, recent sun exposure, and every earlier treatment in the area: filler, collagen stimulators, threads, fat grafting and energy-based lifting.
The examination separates things that look alike in the mirror. Laxity is skin and tissue that have loosened. Compact fat is a soft fullness that stays when the skin is pinched thin. Settled product is material that has gathered where it was not wanted. Volume loss is a hollow that reads as a sag. Where filler or fat graft might be part of the picture, each deposit is mapped with ultrasound, so that treatment follows what is there rather than what the injection record says. Photographs are taken for your medical record.
You leave with a written plan: what he would do, what he would not, the fee factors, and the option of no treatment. How the fee is built is set out on Time Freeze cost factors, and the visit itself on what to expect at a Time Freeze visit.
A plan that says Time Freeze is not the right tool still says what is. The common alternatives are these:
How these fit together without adding product is set out on face lifting without fillers, and the concern-by-concern options on sagging face treatment.

Because the 755 nm wavelength is absorbed by melanin, freshly tanned skin is not treated, and temporary darkening is more likely in darker skin and after sun exposure. Diligent sun protection before and after treatment is part of the plan, and wavelength and fluence are set for your skin and for each zone.
Usually not as the lead treatment. The Sculpting mode is reserved for areas that are too full, and a lean face has little fat to spare. For lean or hollow faces Dr Sin Yong plans the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift, whose Restore mode is used in hollow areas. Where a face is lean in one zone and heavy in another, the two protocols can be used together.
Often, yes. Earlier filler or collagen stimulator in the area is mapped with ultrasound first. Hyaluronic acid causing puffiness is usually dissolved with hyaluronidase. Collagen stimulators such as PCL, PLLA or CaHA cannot be dissolved, and the Sculpting mode is used on the excess. Recent filler or threads in the treatment plane are timed around rather than heated over.
Not while the tan is fresh. Freshly tanned or sunburnt skin is not treated, because the 755 nm wavelength is absorbed by melanin and the risk of burns and pigment change rises. Treatment is postponed until the skin has settled, and avoiding sun exposure and tanning beforehand is part of preparing for the visit.
No, but mention it. An active cold sore in or near the area postpones treatment until it has healed. If you have had cold sores before, antiviral cover may be advised around the visit. The same applies to any infected, broken or inflamed skin in a treatment zone: it is treated first.
