How the two protocols fit together

The VF Lift – Vertical Facelift and Time Freeze Laser LCLR® are not two versions of the same thing. The VF Lift uses radiofrequency current to heat the dermis and the fibrous septa beneath it, zone by zone along vertical vectors. Lift tightens, Sculpt flattens pockets of puffiness, and Restore is used to stimulate your own fat in hollow areas. Time Freeze uses laser light at two wavelengths to heat the dermis at several depths, and its Sculpting mode is built to take away excess: sagged fat or settled filler.

So the choice follows the face. Where a face is lean or already hollow, Dr Sin Yong uses the VF Lift. Where it is puffy or heavy, he uses Time Freeze. Many faces have both, and the two can be used together. Neither replaces surgery for heavy skin.

How to read these answers

Each answer is general and short, and links to the page that covers the subject properly. Where an answer says something is possible, it means possible in principle, with the decision made at assessment. The fuller picture is on face lifting without fillers, and wider lifting questions, including HIFU and threads, are on lifting, HIFU and radiofrequency questions.

“Lean face, VF Lift. Puffy face, Time Freeze. Many faces need a little of both, and I decide by looking at each area, not at the machines in the room.”

Frequently Asked Questions

It is Dr Sin Yong's non-surgical lifting protocol on Volnewmer, a CLASSYS platform that delivers monopolar radiofrequency at 6.78 MHz. Heat is planned zone by zone along vertical vectors, with three modes: Lift for loose skin, Sculpt for pockets of puffiness and Restore for hollow areas. It uses no focused ultrasound, no incisions and no injected product. Details are on the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift page.

It is Dr Sin Yong's laser lifting protocol on a long-pulsed 755 nm and 1064 nm platform. The two wavelengths are used together to heat the superficial, mid and deep dermis in one visit, so collagen contracts and then remodels. A Sculpting mode targets sagged fat along the jowl and under the chin, and settled filler. There is no redness and no downtime. See Time Freeze Laser LCLR®.

It tends to suit laxity, jowling or loss of jawline definition, fullness in the lower or mid face, and hollowing of the cheeks, temples or under the eyes, in someone who prefers a non-invasive approach. It is planned with care in a very thin face. Pregnancy means waiting, and a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device rules it out. Suitability is decided at consultation.

It tends to suit mild to moderate laxity of the jowls, jawline or neck, loose and crepey neck skin, and compact fat along the jowl or under the chin. It is also used on settled filler that cannot be dissolved. Freshly tanned or sunburnt skin is not treated, because the 755 nm wavelength is absorbed by melanin, and marked skin excess is referred for a surgical opinion.

Because the two answer opposite problems. A lean face cannot spare fat, so treatments that reduce fat can deepen hollows. The VF Lift lifts and, in its Restore mode, is used to stimulate the face's own fat. A puffy or heavy face carries excess, and Time Freeze's Sculpting mode is built to take it away. This is also why Dr Sin Yong does not use HIFU or Ultherapy on lean faces.

Yes. Time Freeze Laser LCLR® can be used together with the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift, and many plans include both because faces often have lean zones and heavy zones at once. The VF Lift might restore the temples and lift the jawline, while Time Freeze targets compact fat under the chin. The order and spacing are set at assessment and review rather than to a preset.

For sagging, Dr Sin Yong starts with lifting, because filler adds weight to tissue that is already descending. Neither protocol injects anything, so there is no product to overfill, migrate or form lumps. He still uses filler as needed, but sparingly: a bony deficit or chin projection may need a small amount. See VF Lift vs fillers and Time Freeze vs fillers.

HIFU focuses ultrasound to small points at set depths, down to the SMAS. The VF Lift uses radiofrequency and Time Freeze uses laser; both heat broader areas, and neither uses focused ultrasound. Focused ultrasound also reduces fat, which reads as hollowing in a lean face, so Dr Sin Yong does not plan HIFU there. HIFU keeps a role for structural descent in a face with normal fullness. See VF Lift vs HIFU.

Thermage FLX and the Volnewmer behind the VF Lift are both 6.78 MHz monopolar radiofrequency. What the VF Lift adds is the plan: vertical vectors and three modes set zone by zone, including Restore for hollows. Time Freeze heats the same dermal layer with laser light and adds a Sculpting mode, which Thermage does not have. See VF Lift vs Thermage and Time Freeze vs Thermage.

Sometimes. A thread lift repositions tissue mechanically and suits tissue that has slid but still has support for a thread to grip. Where the support itself has loosened, or the face is lean or heavy rather than descended, heat-based lifting is considered instead. Nothing is left under the skin with either protocol. The comparison is on VF Lift vs thread lift.

Yes, and for the neck Dr Sin Yong starts most plans with these two rather than Thermage. The VF Lift is used with conservative heat across the neck and to sculpt under the jaw. Time Freeze is used for loose, crepey neck skin. The thyroid is kept out of the field. Vertical neck bands are muscle and are a botulinum toxin question. See neck lift without surgery.

Often, once the cause is clear. For a double chin Dr Sin Yong uses Time Freeze Laser LCLR®, whose Sculpting mode targets superficial fat under the chin, or the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift, which is used to sculpt fullness under the jaw and tighten the skin. A gland, a short chin or posture can look like a double chin and are separated at examination first. See double chin treatment.

It depends on what the jowl is made of. Loose skin and descent along the jaw edge suit the Lift mode of the VF Lift, set along vertical vectors. A jowl heavy with compact fat suits Time Freeze, whose Sculpting mode targets the fat while the dermis is tightened. Many jowls have both. A heavy, mobile jowl with skin excess is referred. See jowls and lower-face sagging.

Where the problem is lax skin, yes. The VF Lift is used to lift droopy upper eyes where suitable, and its Restore mode, with a small tip and conservative settings, is used under the eyes. Time Freeze's periorbital setting is directed at lax lid skin and brow heaviness. True ptosis of the eyelid muscle, or a large fold of skin on the lashes, is referred to a specialist.

The Restore mode of the VF Lift is customised to hollow areas, and the temples are among the zones Dr Sin Yong uses it on, with the forehead, including a central forehead hollow, under the eyes, the lateral cheeks and the prejowl sulcus. It is used to stimulate your own fat to regenerate, so any change builds gradually and varies with the person and with age. Time Freeze is not a treatment for hollows.

Time Freeze Laser LCLR® has no redness and no downtime; you can return to work and make-up straight after. After the VF Lift, redness and warmth as the skin cools, with mild swelling and tenderness, are expected and settle on their own, and most people return to ordinary activities soon after. Rarely there is a blister or a patch of altered sensation, which is reviewed by the doctor.

Fees are not published. They depend on the area treated, the number of zones in the plan, which modes are used, whether the Sculpting mode is needed and whether the two protocols or another treatment are combined. A written quote is given at consultation, after Dr Sin Yong has examined you, and the consultation also decides whether treatment is advised. See how fees are quoted.

Dr Sin Yong examines your face himself at rest and in animation, palpates skin and fat thickness zone by zone, and checks recoil. Earlier filler is mapped with ultrasound; hyaluronic acid causing puffiness is dissolved first, and settled stimulator is treated with Time Freeze before any radiofrequency heat. You receive a written plan: what he would do, what he would not, the fee factors and the option of no treatment.

A pacemaker, defibrillator or other implanted electronic device rules out the VF Lift, and metal implants near the field change the plan. Freshly tanned skin, photosensitising medicines or a recent course of oral acne medication postpone Time Freeze. Pregnancy and infected or inflamed skin mean waiting with either. Heavy redundant skin is beyond both and is referred for a surgical opinion.

Usually, after it has been assessed. Earlier filler is mapped with ultrasound so the plan works with what is there. Hyaluronic acid causing puffiness is dissolved first. Collagen stimulators cannot be dissolved, so excess is treated with the Sculpting mode of Time Freeze before any radiofrequency heat. Recent filler or threads in the treatment plane are timed around. See pillow face treatment.
