Time Freeze Laser LCLR® vs HIFU compares two ways of heating a sagging face. HIFU focuses ultrasound to small points at set depths, down to the SMAS. Time Freeze Laser LCLR® is Dr Sin Yong's dual-wavelength laser protocol, heating the dermis across a field at several depths, with a Sculpting mode for sagged fat. How much fat the face has to spare usually decides.
Part of Comparisons →
Time Freeze Laser LCLR® vs HIFU is first a question of where the heat goes. HIFU converges ultrasound at a set depth, so a small point of tissue is heated to roughly 60 to 70 °C while the surface is spared. On the Ultraformer MPT the 4.5 mm cartridge reaches the SMAS, and the 3.0 and 1.5 mm cartridges work in the dermis.

Time Freeze Laser LCLR® works in the dermis and the superficial fat beneath it. It is Dr Sin Yong's protocol on a long-pulsed 755 nm and 1064 nm laser platform. The two wavelengths have different absorption profiles and are used together, directing energy at the superficial, mid and deep dermis in the same visit, across a zone rather than at isolated points. Collagen contracts during treatment and remodels afterwards.
So they reach different layers. HIFU reaches the SMAS; Time Freeze does not. Time Freeze has a Sculpting mode for superficial fat and settled product; HIFU has no setting aimed at those. Neither is a stronger version of the other.
Focused ultrasound also reduces subcutaneous fat where it is delivered. In a lean face the same effect reads as hollowing, most often at the temples, the mid-cheek and in front of the jowl, where tissue above bone is thinnest. For that reason Dr Sin Yong does not plan HIFU or Ultherapy for lean faces. There he uses the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift, which lifts, sculpts pockets of puffiness and restores hollow areas.
Time Freeze works on the opposite problem. Its Sculpting mode is reserved for zones that are too full: sagged fat along the jowl and nasolabial area, the double chin, fat that blurs the jawline, and product that has settled where it was not wanted. Nothing is injected, so there is no filler to overfill, migrate or form lumps.
His rule is short: lean faces, VF Lift; puffy or heavier faces, Time Freeze. HIFU keeps its place where descent is structural in a face with normal fullness. The mechanism behind fat loss is explained in will HIFU melt my face fat.
“Focused ultrasound can take fat as well as tighten. I check how much fat a face has to spare before I choose the energy.”
Dr Sin YongOn HIFU and lean faces
Dr Sin Yong performs HIFU on the Ultraformer MPT, Ultherapy Prime, Thermage FLX and thread lifts. For most lifting he leads with Time Freeze Laser LCLR® and the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift where they suit.
| Option | What it does | Suits | Not for | Page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Time Freeze Laser LCLR® | Dual-wavelength laser heating the dermis at several depths; Sculpting mode for sagged fat and settled product | Mild to moderate laxity with compact fat; a heavy lower face; loose, crepey neck skin | Freshly tanned skin; a zone that is already lean; marked skin excess | Time Freeze Laser LCLR® |
| HIFU: Ultraformer MPT or Ultherapy Prime | Focused ultrasound points in the SMAS and dermis | Early to moderate SMAS laxity along the jaw, chin and neck with normal fullness | Lean or hollow faces; a full fat pad; thin tissue over bone | HIFU Singapore |
| VF Lift – Vertical Facelift | Volnewmer monopolar radiofrequency along vertical vectors, with Lift, Sculpt and Restore | Lean faces; laxity with hollowing; the neck | An implanted electronic device | VF Lift – Vertical Facelift |
| Thermage FLX | Monopolar radiofrequency heating of the skin envelope | Skin laxity in a face that has kept its volume | Fat, hollowing or settled product | Thermage FLX |
| Surgical referral | Repositions tissue and removes skin | Marked skin excess or heavy descent | Skin quality on its own | Sagging face treatment |
Each carries its own risks. HIFU commonly causes redness, warmth and tenderness along the lines; rarely a surface burn, temporary weakness of a facial movement where heat reaches a nerve branch, or fat loss that reads as hollowing. Time Freeze has no redness and no downtime; less often there is tenderness where fat or filler excess was targeted, or temporary darkening, more likely in darker skin and after sun; rarely a burn, blister or more fat loss than intended.
A jowl can be laxity, fat, or both. Where the SMAS has loosened along the jaw in a face with fat to spare, HIFU is directed at that layer. Where the jowl is heavy with compact fat, the Sculpting mode of Time Freeze is directed at the fat while the dermis is tightened. Telling them apart comes first; jowls and lower face sagging sets out how.
For a double chin, Dr Sin Yong uses Time Freeze Laser LCLR® or the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift. HIFU reaches the loose envelope under the chin, but a full fat pad is not a laxity problem. For the neck he starts most plans with the VF Lift and Time Freeze, because neck skin is thin; HIFU is considered for deeper laxity just under the jaw where there is enough tissue. The thyroid is kept out of the field with any energy.
Time Freeze Laser LCLR® is usually paired with the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift, and the two can be used together on the same face. HIFU is chosen instead of Time Freeze, not alongside it, when the examination shows SMAS laxity in a face with normal fullness. Dr Sin Yong does not use HIFU or Ultherapy on a lean face; the VF Lift is used there instead.
Dr Sin Yong examines the face at rest and in animation, palpates skin and fat thickness over each zone, and uses ultrasound where earlier filler is involved. Three questions decide: how much fat each zone has to spare, which layer has loosened, and whether sagged fat or settled product is weighing the lower face down. The honest answer can be neither. Fees follow the plan; see how fees are quoted.

It depends on what the jowl is made of. A jowl from SMAS laxity in a face with fat to spare can suit HIFU. A jowl that is heavy with compact fat suits Time Freeze Laser LCLR® and its Sculpting mode. In a lean face Dr Sin Yong plans neither and uses the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift. The examination decides.
It can. Loss of subcutaneous fat is a recognised side effect of focused ultrasound, most noticeable in lean faces at the temples, mid-cheek and in front of the jowl. That is why Dr Sin Yong does not plan HIFU for lean faces. Established hollowing is assessed in person, and the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift is the approach he reaches for.
Time Freeze Laser LCLR® has no redness and no downtime; you can return to work and make-up straight afterwards. After HIFU, mild redness, warmth or tenderness along the treated lines is common and settles on its own, with occasional swelling along the jawline, a bruise or temporary numbness. Anything that does not settle is reviewed by the doctor.
It is not a ranking. For a double chin Dr Sin Yong uses Time Freeze Laser LCLR® or the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift. HIFU reaches the loose envelope under the chin, but a full fat pad is not laxity. Fat, a gland, a short chin and posture are separated at examination first, because each needs a different answer.
Yes. Time Freeze Laser LCLR® is commonly combined with the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift, Dr Sin Yong's radiofrequency protocol, and the two can be used together on the same face. HIFU is a separate choice for SMAS laxity in a face with normal fullness, and is not used on a lean face. Which combination suits you is decided at assessment.
