You are likely to be suitable for the VF Lift when the face shows laxity, jowling, puffiness or hollowing, you prefer no incisions and nothing injected, and you accept that any change builds gradually. A pacemaker or other implanted electronic device rules it out. Heavy redundant skin is referred for a surgical opinion. Dr Sin Yong decides suitability at an in-person assessment.

Short answerSuitability for the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift depends on what has happened to the face: loose tissue, a puffy area, a hollow, or a mix. It is monopolar radiofrequency on Volnewmer, so implanted electronic devices rule it out, and it cannot remove heavy skin. A lean face that should not have HIFU is often planned for it.

Key facts
Tends to suit
Laxity, jowling or a softening jawline; puffiness in the lower or mid-face; hollowing of the temples, cheeks or under the eyes
Lean faces
Dr Sin Yong does not plan HIFU or Ultherapy for a lean face; the VF Lift is used instead, with restraint over very thin tissue
Not treated
A pacemaker, defibrillator or other implanted electronic device, because the current passes through the body to a return pad
Wait first
Pregnancy; active infection, open wounds, inflamed acne or a cold sore in the area; recent filler or threads in the treatment plane
Referred on
Heavy redundant skin or a heavy, mobile jowl to a plastic surgery specialist; true eyelid ptosis to an oculoplastic specialist

Who is suitable for the VF Lift, and why the face decides

The VF Lift suits people whose concern comes from the tissue they already have: skin and support that have loosened, an area that has become puffy, or an area that has emptied. The VF Lift – Vertical Facelift is Dr Sin Yong's protocol on the CLASSYS Volnewmer, a 6.78 MHz monopolar radiofrequency platform with continuous water cooling. It heats the dermis and the fibrous septa beneath it as a volume, planned zone by zone along vertical vectors. It uses no focused ultrasound and no injected product. Each zone is set to one of three modes, which is why one protocol can suit quite different faces:

It also suits people recovering from a filler problem, once that problem has been assessed and treated. Every skin type is assessed, with settings adjusted for darker phototypes.

Lean face or puffy face: which protocol leads

How much fat a face has to spare is one of the first things that decides suitability. Focused ultrasound reduces fat where it is delivered, which helps under the chin but reads as hollowing in a lean face. For that reason Dr Sin Yong does not plan HIFU or Ultherapy for a lean face; he uses the VF Lift instead, with the Lift mode for loose tissue and the Restore mode for hollow areas.

A puffy or heavier face is often planned differently. Where sagged fat or settled filler weighs the lower face down, Time Freeze Laser LCLR® and its Sculpting mode may lead. Time Freeze Laser LCLR® can also be used together with the VF Lift, and many faces carry both patterns, so the two are sequenced in one plan.

“Suitability is not about age or a wish list. It is about what the tissue has done: moved, emptied or gathered, and whether radiofrequency can reach that.”

Dr Sin YongOn who suits the VF Lift

Who should not have the VF Lift, and who should wait

One exclusion is firm. Monopolar radiofrequency passes an electrical current from the tip through the body to a return pad, so the VF Lift is not used with a cardiac pacemaker, an implantable defibrillator or any other implanted electronic device. Metal implants in or near the treatment field do not always rule it out, but they change the plan.

Reasons to wait

Reasons for caution rather than refusal

A tendency to keloid scarring or poor healing, reduced sensation in the area, autoimmune or connective-tissue disease, and a very thin face with little fat beneath the skin.

Heavy redundant skin, or an expectation of the change a surgical facelift gives, is referred to a plastic surgery specialist, because radiofrequency is the wrong tool. What can go wrong is set out on Volnewmer side effects.

What is checked at the assessment before anything is planned

Suitability is decided in person, and the assessment follows the same order each time.

  1. History. Implanted devices and metal, pregnancy, medicines, healing and scarring, and every earlier filler, biostimulator, thread and energy treatment, with dates where known.
  2. Examination. The face at rest, smiling, in profile and three-quarter view, and with the tissue lifted gently by a fingertip. If lifting restores the contour, the problem is descent; if a heavy pad stays, it is excess.
  3. Pinch and palpation. Skin and fat are judged zone by zone, because thin zones are heated more conservatively and a lean face is not planned like a full one.
  4. Earlier photographs, which separate a cheek that has emptied from one that has slid.
  5. Ultrasound where filler is suspected. Product is mapped first; hyaluronic acid causing puffiness is dissolved before any heat is planned.

You leave with a written plan naming the zones, the mode set for each, what is kept out of the field, and the option of no treatment. The VF Lift visit, step by step describes the day itself, and the fee logic is on VF Lift cost factors.

If the VF Lift is not suitable: the alternatives

Not being suitable is a finding, not a dead end. The plan points to whatever matches the problem:

The wider approach, and why lifting comes before volume, is set out on face lifting without fillers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Often, yes. Dr Sin Yong does not plan HIFU or Ultherapy for a lean face, because focused ultrasound reduces fat; he uses the VF Lift instead. The Lift mode is set for loose tissue and the Restore mode for hollow areas, with conservative settings over very thin tissue, because over-heating the small amount of fat beneath thin skin can leave a dent.

No. Monopolar radiofrequency passes a current from the tip through the body to a return pad, so a pacemaker, implantable defibrillator or other implanted electronic device rules the VF Lift out. Metal implants near the treatment field do not always rule it out, but they change the plan. Tell the clinic about any implant before booking.

Usually, once the filler has been assessed. Earlier product is mapped with ultrasound; hyaluronic acid causing puffiness is dissolved before any heat is planned, and collagen stimulators that cannot be dissolved are timed around, with Time Freeze Laser LCLR® used to remodel the excess where needed. Recent filler or threads in the treatment plane are not heated over.

Anyone with an implanted electronic device, and anyone pregnant or with infected or inflamed skin in the area until it settles. Heavy redundant skin, a heavy mobile jowl or true eyelid ptosis are referred for a surgical opinion, because radiofrequency cannot remove skin or reposition the lid. Muscle bands on the neck are a question for botulinum toxin.

The two can be used together in one plan. Time Freeze Laser LCLR® tends to lead where compact fat or settled product makes an area heavy, and the VF Lift where tissue is loose or hollow. Many faces carry both, and the order and spacing are set by Dr Sin Yong at assessment and review rather than stacked without a reason.
