Main guide  Skin tightening Singapore — what it treats, who it suits, sessions, downtime and what decides the cost, by Dr Sin Yong.

After Volnewmer monopolar radiofrequency, most people have warmth, redness and mild swelling that settle within hours to a day. Uncommon problems include small burns and contour change if heat affects the fat beneath the skin. Aftercare is simple: gentle skincare and sunscreen, no heat-based treatments for a few days, and patience, because remodelling develops over months.

Comparing lifting options beyond Volnewmer? For most sagging, Dr Sin Yong leads with his own protocols, the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift (monopolar radiofrequency on Volnewmer) and Time Freeze Laser LCLR® (dual-wavelength laser). Both work on your own tissue. Nothing is injected, so there is no filler to overfill, migrate or form lumps. Which one suits you, if either, is decided at assessment.

What is normal

Volnewmer heats the dermis and the fibrous tissue beneath it as a volume while the surface is cooled with water. Warmth and pinkness on the day are expected and fade within hours; mild swelling, especially under the eyes or along the jaw, can last a day or two. Tenderness is usually mild.

Uncommon problems

Small burns or blisters can occur if cooling or contact is incomplete, or if energy is too high for that area. Contour change can follow if heat affects fat that should be spared, more of a concern in lean faces. Energy is set per area and adjusted during treatment for that reason. Compared with Thermage, Volnewmer has a shorter published history, which is one reason protocols are planned conservatively; see Volnewmer vs Thermage.

Volnewmer effects at a glance: what settles, what needs a message, and why

Volnewmer heats the dermis while the surface is cooled continuously with water. Ordinary effects are those of deep warmth; uncommon ones come from a pulse where cooling, contact or energy was wrong for that zone. The table separates the two for each effect, after the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift or the VF Lift – Vertical Figure Lift.

Water cooling protects the surface; it does not excuse the wrong energy for the zone. Every pulse is set for the tissue under it, not for the face in general.— Dr Sin Yong
EffectUsually settlesNeeds a message or reviewWhy it happens
Warmth and pinknessPresent on the day, fading on its ownRedness that deepens or spreads, or comes with increasing painVolumetric dermal heating under continuous water cooling; a worsening patch suggests incomplete cooling or contact for a pulse

TendernessMild, needing nothingPain that worsens rather than easesDeep heating of the dermis and fibrous septa
Burn or blisterNot expectedAny blister, crust or open area, the same day, wherever you areCooling or contact incomplete, or energy too high for the zone; the impedance check before each pulse and zone-by-zone calibration are there to reduce this

Aftercare for the face protocol is on VF Lift – Vertical Facelift aftercare; the cryogen-cooled comparison is on Volnewmer vs Thermage.

Aftercare

Return to normal activity the same day. Cleanse gently, moisturise and use sunscreen. Avoid saunas, hot yoga and heat-based facial treatments for a few days, and pause strong exfoliants for two or three days. Make-up is usually fine the next day. Any combination with injectables is spaced as set out in your plan.

Questions after treatment come back through WhatsApp at +65 8023 7170 during clinic hours (Monday to Friday 10am to 8pm, Saturday 11am to 3pm, Singapore time). Anything that is getting worse rather than better, a blister or open area, or fever needs to be seen the same day, wherever you are.
