VF Lift – Vertical Facelift aftercare is the aftercare of Volnewmer monopolar radiofrequency, because that is the energy the protocol runs on; there is no ultrasound and no Ultraformer in it. Keep the treated zones cool on the first day, avoid heat, alcohol and hard exercise, cleanse gently and apply sunscreen. Redness as the skin cools is expected; a blister, a dent, or numbness or weakness is not.

In brief

VF Lift – Vertical Facelift aftercare is about keeping freshly warmed skin cool, because the protocol runs on Volnewmer radiofrequency rather than ultrasound. Gentle walking is fine, while saunas, hot classes, hot showers on the face and alcohol are held back. Pinkness and mild swelling are expected; a blister, a new dent, persistent numbness or any change in facial movement should be reported.

What does the redness look like after VF Lift – Vertical Facelift?

Redness after VF Lift – Vertical Facelift follows the zones that were heated. The protocol delivers Volnewmer monopolar radiofrequency zone by zone along vertical vectors, with the energy in each zone set to Lift, Reduce or Restore, so the pinkness you see in the mirror maps those zones: a flush over the lower cheek and jaw edge where Lift vectors ran, warmth over a jowl fat pad where Reduce was used, and a lighter pinkness over a hollow cheek treated for Restore. The surface was cooled continuously with water during delivery, so the colour comes from heat in the dermis beneath, not from an injury to the surface, and it fades as the skin cools.

Mild swelling can follow, and it collects where the tissue is loosest, along the jawline or under the eyes, so it can look lopsided in the morning if you slept on one side. Tenderness is usually mild and is more noticeable over bone, such as the jaw edge and the chin. A faint tingling over a treated zone can occur and is short-lived. None of this is a wound: there are no incisions, no anaesthesia to recover from, and most people return to their day. The VF Lift – Vertical Facelift page explains the protocol; the Volnewmer page explains the device beneath it.

What should you do on the first day after VF Lift?

On the first day, keep the treated zones cool and unpressed. A clean, cool compress held gently against the cheek or jaw eases the warmth; do not press, rub or massage the treated lines, and do not apply ice directly to the skin. Cleanse with a gentle, non-foaming cleanser and lukewarm water, pat dry and use a plain moisturiser. Leave out retinoids, exfoliating acids, vitamin C serums and scrubs until the skin feels ordinary again.

Avoid hot showers on the face, saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga and alcohol for the rest of the day, because heat and alcohol both widen blood vessels and prolong the swelling. Paracetamol is reasonable for tenderness if you can take it; avoid anti-inflammatory painkillers unless the clinic has said otherwise. Sleep face-up with the head slightly raised on an extra pillow while the jawline is tender. The written aftercare given before you leave names the zones treated and the aim set for each, and it takes priority over this page.

“The VF Lift is radiofrequency, so its aftercare is about heat: nothing adds heat to a zone that has just been heated.”

What are the heat and exercise rules after VF Lift?

The heat and exercise rules after VF Lift come down to one principle: monopolar radiofrequency has already heated the dermis and the fibrous septa beneath it, so nothing should add heat, pressure or friction to those zones while they are settling. Walking is fine straight away. Hard exercise, long runs, hot classes and anything that leaves the face flushed raise skin temperature and blood flow and are left until swelling and tenderness have settled; treat exercise as a question of heat rather than of effort. Saunas, steam and hot yoga wait for the same reason, as do heat-based facials and at-home devices.

No facial, facial massage, gua sha, microcurrent or other energy-based treatment goes over the same zones before the review. Where HIFU is part of the plan, it is staged around the VF Lift at a spacing set by Dr Sin Yong, not booked on your own; the HIFU with VF Lift page explains how the two energies are sequenced.

Sun protection is daily and non-negotiable in Singapore's climate: a broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning, reapplied outdoors, and a hat on bright days. Skin that has been heated is more reactive, and in Fitzpatrick III to V skin any surface injury can be followed by temporary pigment change. No deliberate tanning while the skin is tender.

Volnewmer aftercare, with or without the VF Lift protocol

Volnewmer aftercare is the same whether the treatment was given as the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift or as a Volnewmer session planned another way, because the energy is the same: monopolar radiofrequency that heats the dermis and the fibrous tissue beneath it while the surface is cooled. What differs between plans is which zones were treated and at what setting, so your written aftercare names the zones. The rules above apply to all of them. A few practical points are worth adding.

If you were treated with Volnewmer at another clinic, the same signs apply: a blister, a new dent over the cheek, temple or jaw, numbness that persists, or any change in facial movement should be reported the same day. The complication care page sets out which signs need a doctor the same day, wherever the treatment was done. How the device works, and how the protocol differs from a standard session, is on the Volnewmer and VF Lift – Vertical Facelift pages, and every other aftercare guide is listed under aftercare.

What is normal after VF Lift, and what is not?

Normal after VF Lift is pinkness and warmth that fade as the skin cools, mild swelling along the jawline or under the eyes, mild tenderness over the treated zones that is more noticeable on chewing or pressing the jaw, and occasionally a small bruise. These relate to heat placed in the dermis and the fibrous tissue beneath it and resolve on their own.

Not normal is anything that points to heat having reached the surface, the fat beneath thin skin or a nerve. A blister, crust or small burn can follow incomplete cooling or contact, or energy too high for that area. A dent over the cheek, temple or jaw can follow over-heating of fat beneath thin skin, which is why a lean face is treated with restraint and the Restore arm exists for hollow zones. Numbness or tingling that persists rather than fades, or a new weakness when you smile, purse the lips or raise the brow, needs prompt review. Swelling that is marked, increasing or clearly one-sided, pain that is increasing rather than settling, or skin that becomes hot, red and tight are reported rather than watched. In darker skin, any surface injury can be followed by temporary pigment change, which is reviewed. The full list is on the Volnewmer side effects page.

Early firmness is not the result. Tightening and definition are the first actions; the collagen and stem-cell response in hollow zones develops gradually afterwards, which is why the review is timed to allow for it.

When should you call the clinic after VF Lift, and what happens at review?

Message the clinic on WhatsApp during clinic hours if you notice any of the following:

Anything that is getting worse rather than better, a blister or open area, or fever needs to be seen the same day, wherever you are. The complication care page sets out which signs go to a doctor the same day. Most messages after VF Lift turn out to be expected warmth or tenderness, and you will be told plainly whether what you describe sounds ordinary, needs to be seen, and how soon.

The review is timed to the gradual response of collagen. Dr Sin Yong examines each zone, asks about sensation and movement, and compares the face with the photographs in your medical record. The protocol is then adjusted zone by zone, with a zone added, left alone or set to a different aim, rather than repeated to a preset; any staged combination with focused ultrasound or with Time Freeze Laser LCLR® for puffiness is decided then. If you had a radiofrequency lift elsewhere and something feels wrong, the same warning signs apply; bring the device name, the zones treated and the date. The consultation process page describes how an assessment here works, and the flying after treatment page covers travel timing.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The VF Lift – Vertical Facelift runs on Volnewmer monopolar radiofrequency, so the aftercare is the same: keep the zones cool and unpressed on the first day, avoid heat, hard exercise and alcohol while they settle, cleanse gently and use sunscreen daily. What differs is which zones were treated, and your written aftercare names them.

Similar in spirit but not the same treatment. VF Lift – Vertical Facelift runs on Volnewmer monopolar radiofrequency, which heats whole zones through the dermis with the surface water-cooled; HIFU places focal points of heat at set depths. Both call for cool, unpressed skin and no heat on the first day, but the redness pattern, the swelling and the warning signs on this page are those of radiofrequency.

Walking is fine straight away. Hard exercise, long runs and hot classes raise skin temperature and blood flow and prolong swelling in zones that have just been heated, so leave them until tenderness and swelling have settled. The written aftercare gives the timing for the zones treated.

Usually once the skin is calm and the pinkness has gone. Apply it gently with clean tools and remove it without rubbing. If a zone is still pink, warm or tender, wait until it has settled.

Tenderness on chewing is common after Lift vectors are run along the jaw edge, because heat has been placed in the dermis and septa over bone. It settles on its own. Pain that increases rather than eases, or a new weakness in the smile or lip, should be reported.

That is decided at review, not by a fixed interval. Collagen remodelling is gradual, and placing more energy over tissue that is still responding adds heat without adding benefit. Where HIFU is part of the plan it is staged around the VF Lift at a spacing set by Dr Sin Yong.
