The DEKA TORO laser is a Q-switched Nd:YAG platform made by DEKA, the Italian manufacturer in the El.En. group, that combines picosecond and nanosecond pulses across three wavelengths: 785 nm picosecond, plus 532 nm and 1064 nm nanosecond. It also carries a longer-pulsed 1064 nm thermal mode. It is used for tattoo ink, pigment and skin texture.

Short answerDr Sin Yong uses the DEKA TORO for two separate protocols: T2 Laser Tattoo Removal on the DEKA TORO, which matches the wavelength to each ink colour, and T2 Frax Radiance, which pairs picosecond toning with the thermal mode for pigment, pores and texture.

What the DEKA TORO is, and its three wavelengths

The DEKA TORO is one machine with several emissions, and each is matched to a different target. The picosecond emission at 785 nm comes from a titanium-sapphire source, with a pulse in the hundreds of picoseconds, so the target is broken mainly by a pressure effect with little heat spread. The 532 nm and 1064 nm emissions are Q-switched nanosecond pulses, about a thousand times longer, which act with more heat alongside the pressure effect. The thermal mode is a longer 1064 nm pulse that deliberately warms the dermis.

Handpieces include square spots, which DEKA suggests for tattoo removal so that passes tile without gaps or overlap, and a zoom handpiece. Repetition runs up to 20 Hz.

Where the DEKA TORO matters on this site

Dr Sin Yong is a Global DEKA Key Opinion Leader.

“Three wavelengths in one room do not decide anything on their own. The ink or the pigment decides the wavelength, and the skin around it decides the energy.”

What decides whether the DEKA TORO matters for you

The platform matters less than the target. For a tattoo, the ink colours decide which emission is used, so a black tattoo may need one wavelength and a multicoloured one several. For pigment, the depth of the mark and the cause behind it decide whether a laser helps at all. Skin type sets the energy, because Fitzpatrick III to V skin can darken or lighten after any laser. Dr Sin Yong makes those choices at the assessment, before the device is discussed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Tattoo ink, pigment and skin texture. Its 1064 nm and 532 nm nanosecond emissions are cleared for dark and light tattoo inks and for pigmented lesions, its 785 nm picosecond emission for green and blue ink, and its thermal mode for wrinkles and inflammatory acne. Here it is used for T2 Laser Tattoo Removal and for T2 Frax Radiance, each planned after Dr Sin Yong's assessment.

Partly. Its 785 nm emission is picosecond, from a titanium-sapphire source. Its 532 nm and 1064 nm emissions are Q-switched nanosecond pulses, and it has a longer-pulsed 1064 nm thermal mode. That mix lets the pulse be chosen for the target, for example picosecond for green and blue ink and nanosecond for black and red.

Yes. The DEKA TORO, submitted by El.En. S.p.A., received US FDA 510(k) clearance K240752 on 16 May 2024. It covers tattoo removal at all three wavelengths, benign pigmented and vascular lesions, and the thermal mode for wrinkles and mild to moderate inflammatory acne. Clearance describes what a device may be used for; it does not promise a result for any individual.
