Compared for hair removal in diode vs alexandrite vs Nd:YAG laser hair removal.

Nd:YAG laser is a laser built on a neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet crystal, emitting at 1064 nm, with a frequency-doubled 532 nm output on many platforms. The 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength penetrates deeper than most pigment lasers and is only modestly absorbed by epidermal melanin, which is what makes it workable across Fitzpatrick III to V skin. It is built in long-pulsed, Q-switched nanosecond and picosecond forms, each for a different job.
At 1064 nm the Nd:YAG wavelength is absorbed by melanin, haemoglobin and, weakly, water, but less strongly than shorter wavelengths, so it penetrates deeper and spares the epidermis. That profile makes it the default long wavelength for Singapore skin, and it appears across the site in three pulse forms.
Nd:YAG is a crystal; before I use it I decide the pulse, because a long pulse and a nanosecond pulse are two different instruments.— Dr Sin Yong
For hair removal on darker skin the dark skin page explains why 1064 nm is chosen over 755 nm; the diode vs alexandrite vs Nd:YAG comparison does the same across all three.
"Nd:YAG" names a crystal and a wavelength, not a treatment. The confusions below come from treating it as a brand.
Asking "which Nd:YAG" means asking which pulse width and which fluence.
The wavelength suits Singapore skin, but the pulse form and the indication decide whether it is the right tool for you.
Dr Sin Yong chooses the pulse form per mark and per visit, which is why the same machine appears on pages about hair, redness and pigment.
The 1064 nm Nd:YAG is the workhorse wavelength for Singapore skin and appears on this site in three forms. Long-pulsed, it is half of Dr Sin Yong's R2 Glow protocol alongside the 755 nm alexandrite, directed at the low-grade inflammation that keeps melanocytes producing pigment; the same long pulse is matched to deeper skin tones for laser hair removal and to deeper, blue-purple vessels in facial telangiectasia. At low fluence in gentle repeated passes it is laser toning, a protocol rather than a machine, which the site treats cautiously because frequent repeated toning has been linked to pale, mottled spots. Melasma is managed rather than removed on any of them.
Because epidermal melanin absorbs it only modestly, so more of the energy reaches the target in the dermis and less is taken up by the surface. That widens the safety margin in Fitzpatrick III to V skin compared with shorter wavelengths.
Laser toning is a protocol: low-fluence 1064 nm Nd:YAG energy delivered in gentle, repeated passes. The same laser at higher fluence or in Q-switched mode is a different treatment with different risks.
