VF Lift vs Sofwave compares two non-invasive ways of heating a loosening face. Sofwave sends parallel, non-focused ultrasound beams into a band of mid-dermis centred at about 1.5 mm. The VF Lift – Vertical Facelift is Dr Sin Yong's protocol on Volnewmer 6.78 MHz monopolar radiofrequency, with no ultrasound, planned zone by zone. Sofwave is not offered here.

Short answerSofwave is a dermal treatment for early loss of firmness and fine lines. The VF Lift – Vertical Facelift heats the dermis and the fibrous septa beneath it as a volume, and sets each zone to lift, sculpt puffiness or restore hollows. Neither places focal heat in the SMAS, adds filler or removes heavy skin.

VF Lift vs Sofwave: two energies, two depths

VF Lift vs Sofwave is first a question of energy. Sofwave is ultrasound, but not focused ultrasound. Its maker calls the technology SUPERB, short for Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam. Seven transducers on the Lift applicator, or three on the Precise, send parallel beams side by side, so together they heat a band of mid-dermis centred at about 1.5 mm while a cooling system protects the surface. The skin answers that controlled heat by remodelling collagen and elastin.

The VF Lift – Vertical Facelift uses no ultrasound at all. It is monopolar radiofrequency at 6.78 MHz on Volnewmer, made by CLASSYS. Current passes from the tip through the skin to a return pad, and tissue resistance produces heat through the dermis and the fibrous septa beneath it as a volume, under continuous water cooling.

So Sofwave heats a thin band at a set depth; the VF Lift heats a volume that reaches the subdermal fibrous network. The layer-by-layer picture, with focused ultrasound added, is on Sofwave vs HIFU vs monopolar RF.

Early laxity in a face that should not lose volume

Many Sofwave enquiries are really about one situation: early laxity in a face that should not lose volume. Sofwave is aimed at the dermis, which is a sensible target for early crepiness and loss of firmness. It does not add volume or act on a hollow.

The VF Lift – Vertical Facelift is planned zone by zone with three modes. Lift tightens loose skin along vertical vectors at the jawline, the nasolabial folds and under the chin. Sculpt flattens pockets of puffiness. Restore is customised to hollow areas, such as the temples, the forehead, under the eyes and the lateral cheeks, and is used to stimulate the patient's own fat to regenerate. Nothing is injected, so there is no filler to overfill, migrate or form lumps, and any change builds gradually and varies between people.

Where firmness has gone and a thin layer of fat or settled product sits beneath it, the finding is different, and Time Freeze Laser LCLR® is the protocol considered. It can be used together with the VF Lift on the same face.

“A treatment that stops in the dermis and a treatment that heats through it answer different faces. I find the layer, and whether the face can spare any fat, before I choose.”

What each cannot do

Neither energy is absorbed by surface melanin the way laser light is, which is why both are used across skin types. Any heat-based treatment can still cause redness, swelling and, uncommonly, a blister or a patch of darkening. After the VF Lift, redness, warmth and mild swelling are expected; rarely there is a blister, altered sensation or a slight dent over thin skin, which is reviewed.

Neck, brow and acne scars, and how Dr Sin Yong chooses

Sofwave is cleared in the United States to lift lax submental and neck tissue and to lift the eyebrow. For the neck, Dr Sin Yong starts most plans with the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift and Time Freeze Laser LCLR®, with conservative heat over thin skin and the thyroid kept out of the field; neck lift without surgery sets out the options. Around the eyes, the VF Lift is used to lift droopy upper eyes where suitable, with conservative settings.

Sofwave also holds a US clearance for acne scars. Here scars are sorted first: subcision for tethered scars, TCA CROSS for ice-pick scars, FSX for superficial scars and the S3 Resurfacing Lift for deep ones.

For lifting, he examines the face at rest and in animation, feels skin and fat thickness over each zone, and maps earlier filler with ultrasound. If you have had Sofwave elsewhere, bring the device name and date, because recent heat changes timing. Fees follow the plan; see how fees are quoted.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is not a ranking. Sofwave heats a band of mid-dermis with parallel ultrasound beams and suits early loss of firmness and fine lines. The VF Lift – Vertical Facelift heats the dermis and fibrous septa with monopolar radiofrequency, and sets each zone to lift, sculpt or restore. Which suits depends on the layer at fault and how much fat the face has.

No. Sofwave is ultrasound: parallel, non-focused beams centred at about 1.5 mm. The VF Lift – Vertical Facelift is Dr Sin Yong's protocol on Volnewmer 6.78 MHz monopolar radiofrequency and uses no ultrasound at all. They heat different depths in different patterns, and the VF Lift adds Restore for hollow zones. Sofwave is not offered here.

A thin face needs caution with any heating device. Sofwave stays in the dermis and does not add volume. On the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift, hollow zones are set to Restore, used to stimulate the patient's own fat, rather than tightened. Dr Sin Yong uses the VF Lift for lean faces and does not plan Ultherapy or HIFU there.

Sofwave is cleared in the United States to lift lax submental and neck tissue, meaning loose skin. For the neck, Dr Sin Yong starts most plans with the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift and Time Freeze Laser LCLR®, with conservative heat over thin skin. Fat under the chin, a gland or neck bands are separated first, because each needs a different answer.

Sofwave uses synchronous parallel ultrasound beams that heat a band of mid-dermis. Volnewmer, made by CLASSYS, is 6.78 MHz monopolar radiofrequency that heats the dermis and subdermal fibrous septa as a volume under continuous water cooling. On Volnewmer, the treatment at this practice is the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift, planned zone by zone.

Usually, once the skin has settled. Bring the device name, the date and a note of how your skin responded, because a recent heating treatment changes the timing and settings of whatever follows. Dr Sin Yong then assesses which layer has changed and how much fat each zone has, and plans the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift, Time Freeze Laser LCLR®, both, or neither.
