The hydrating booster nicknamed the Chanel injection is explained in a separate guide.

Skin boosters are injected as small deposits, so small raised bumps at the injection points are expected for a few hours to a day or two. Avoid make-up for about twelve hours, skip strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol for a day, do not massage the bumps unless told to, and protect from sun. Many people are presentable the next day.

What should you do and avoid after skin boosters, phase by phase?

This table sets skin booster aftercare out by phase, whether the product was Profhilo, Rejuran or another injectable hydrator: straight after injection while the deposits are raised, the early phase while they flatten, and the settling phase while the skin responds. Each row lists what is expected, what to do, what to avoid and the signs that mean you should send a message.

Straight afterSmall raised blebs at each injection point; pinpoint bruises; mild tenderness; with polynucleotides the blebs can be more noticeableLeave the blebs alone; gentle cleanser in the evening; sleep with the head slightly raisedMake-up over the injection points; strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol; massaging the bumps unless you were told to; facialsHives or swelling of the lips or tongue; a bleb that is hot, red and painful
Early phaseBlebs have flattened; faint bruises fading; the skin may feel slightly tight or sensitiveNormal skincare and make-up applied gently; daily sunscreen; walking and ordinary activityRetinoids and exfoliating acids while the skin feels sensitive; energy treatments or microneedling over the same area; dental work unless agreedBumps that are getting larger rather than smaller; redness and heat; pain after the blebs have settled
SettlingSkin looks ordinary; any change in hydration and texture develops gradually over the courseAttend the review; keep a note of the product used so a later doctor knows what was injectedMixing products from different clinics in the same area without telling each; judging a course from a single sessionA firm lump that persists; a bluish tint through thin skin; asymmetry that does not settle

The recovery pattern specific to the BAP points is pictured on Profhilo downtime, and the pattern after polynucleotide micro-injections on Rejuran downtime; how the two differ in what they are for is explained on Profhilo vs Rejuran.

The first day

The small bumps at injection points flatten within hours to a day or two; with polynucleotides such as Rejuran they can last a little longer. Pinpoint bruises can appear. Use a gentle cleanser in the evening, avoid make-up for about twelve hours, and avoid strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol for a day.

The following days

Normal skincare can usually restart the next day; pause retinoids and acids for a day or two if the skin feels sensitive. Do not massage the injection points unless you have been told to. Daily sunscreen supports the skin while it responds over the following weeks.

What recovery looks like after a skin booster injection

The sequence below describes phases, not a timetable: how quickly each passes depends on the settings used, the area and the person, and is discussed at consultation.

  1. Immediately afterSmall raised points where product was placed, with redness and occasionally a bruise; these are expected and settle on their own.
  2. The first eveningAvoid make-up, heat, alcohol and strenuous exercise; a cool compress limits swelling.
  3. The following daysBumps flatten and redness fades; a hyaluronic acid booster may give an early hydrated look.
  4. As the skin settlesCollagen-directed classes such as PDLLA and polynucleotides work gradually, so their effect is judged later rather than in the first phase.
  5. Follow-upIncreasing pain or discolouration needs urgent assessment by the doctor who injected you, or at A&E, now; increasing swelling or heat needs a doctor the same day (A&E if no doctor can see you today); otherwise the plan is reviewed after the initial phase.

How visible the early bumps are depends on the class of booster, the area and your skin; polynucleotides, for example, tend to leave more noticeable bumps at first than a hyaluronic acid booster. Specific instructions are given on the day, because they differ slightly between products.

When to send a message

Bumps that are getting larger, redness and heat, or pain after the first day are not expected and should be checked.

Questions after treatment come back through WhatsApp at +65 8023 7170 during clinic hours (Monday to Friday 10am to 8pm, Saturday 11am to 3pm, Singapore time). Anything that is getting worse rather than better, a blister or open area, or fever needs to be seen the same day, wherever you are.

Frequently Asked Questions

Small raised points at the injection sites are expected and settle on their own. They tend to be more noticeable with polynucleotides than with hyaluronic acid boosters. Redness and occasional bruising are also possible, and what to expect for your product is explained beforehand.
On the day, avoid rubbing or massaging the area, make-up over the injection points, strenuous exercise, saunas, steam and alcohol. In the following days, avoid facial massage, firm pressure on the area and heat treatments until Dr Sin Yong advises otherwise. Pain that is getting worse, or skin that turns pale, dusky or mottled, needs same-day review; a change in vision is an emergency: call 995.
Strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol are avoided straight after a skin booster, because heat and raised blood flow can increase swelling and bruising at the injection points. Gentle walking is fine. Normal skincare can usually restart soon after, with retinoids and acids paused if the skin feels sensitive. Do not massage the injection points unless you have been told to.
Pinpoint bruises at injection points are common, particularly where the skin is thin, and small bumps flatten as the product settles; with polynucleotides such as Rejuran the bumps can last a little longer. Concealer can go on once the points have closed. Bumps that grow larger, redness and heat, or pain that increases rather than settles are not expected and should be checked.
