Woman with dewy skin touching her cheek, illustrating skin quality after a bio-remodelling injectable

Downtime after Profhilo is defined by the small raised bumps at each injection point. The product is placed as discrete boluses at the Bio Aesthetic Points, so a visible bleb at each point immediately afterwards is the expected appearance, not a complication. The blebs flatten as the hyaluronic acid spreads, any bruise fades, and the skin looks ordinary. Increasing pain, spreading redness or persistent swelling is not normal.

Short answerExpect a small raised bump at each injection point, mild redness and possibly a bruise; the bumps flatten on their own as the product disperses and the skin looks ordinary once they have gone. Avoid make-up, heat, alcohol and exercise at first. A point that is hot, increasingly painful or spreading red needs a call.

What happens on the day of a Profhilo treatment?

Straight after treatment there is a small, soft, dome-shaped bump at each injection point. Profhilo is not spread across the face in many fine injections; it is placed as discrete boluses at a defined set of points per side, the Bio Aesthetic Points, chosen for vascular safety and for how the product spreads through the tissue. Because a measured volume sits at each point, a visible bleb there is what the technique produces. The Profhilo Singapore page explains the pattern and the modified BAP approach Dr Sin Yong uses, with additional placement by face shape and into scarred skin where the examination supports it.

The bumps look like mosquito bites or small marbles under the skin, sit at the cheekbone, the lower cheek and in front of the ear on each side, and are more visible in thin skin and in good light. Mild redness around each point is common and settles quickly. A pinpoint bruise is possible wherever the needle crosses a small vessel, and more likely with blood thinners, aspirin, fish oil or similar supplements, which are asked about beforehand. The neck and the backs of the hands, when treated, show the same pattern at their own points.

The blebs are not massaged. Unlike a biostimulator, the product is meant to spread on its own, and pressing on a bolus moves it in a direction that was not planned. You leave with written aftercare and the signs to report; the skin booster aftercare page covers the general routine.

What do the following days look like?

The blebs flatten as the hyaluronic acid spreads through the tissue. In words rather than figures: they are obvious when you leave, noticeably softer by the first evening in most people, and gone before any bruise has finished fading. Some people can still feel a slight softness at a point after it has stopped being visible; that is the product dispersing, not a lump. Once the blebs have dispersed the skin looks ordinary, and nothing about the face announces that an injection was done.

Bruising, tenderness and transient swelling settle on their own. Hydration and elasticity changes develop gradually as the material integrates, so the days after treatment are not the time to judge the skin; the visible phase of recovery ends well before the change it is planned for begins.

What to avoid while the bumps are visible

“The bump at each point is the technique working as designed. I do not press it flat, and I do not want you to either; the product knows where to go.”

What is not normal after Profhilo, and when should you call?

Not normal: pain at a point that increases rather than settles; redness that spreads outwards from a point rather than fading; warmth; swelling that persists after the blebs at the other points have gone; a blister or open skin; a firm lump that remains once the bumps have dispersed; or a dusky, blotchy, pale or net-like patch of skin, with or without pain. None of these is watched at home.

Each has a mechanism. Increasing pain, spreading redness and warmth point to inflammation or infection at a point, which is uncommon with a needle through clean skin but possible, and is seen promptly. A lump that stays once the product should have dispersed can be product placed too superficially or concentrated in one spot, and is examined rather than massaged; because Profhilo is hyaluronic acid, hyaluronidase is an option where it is needed, which is a distinction from the collagen stimulators. A patch of skin changing colour with pain is treated as a vascular event until proven otherwise and is an emergency; the defined points were chosen to keep the product away from the main vessels, which is why the pattern is not improvised.

Contact the clinic during clinic hours with a photograph of the point in question; the complication care page lists what goes to an emergency department the same day, wherever you are.

Can I wear make-up, exercise and go in the sun after Profhilo?

Make-up can go on once the injection points have closed and the bumps have flattened, applied gently and without pressing. A bruise can be covered at that stage. Exercise, saunas, hot showers and alcohol are left until the bumps have gone, because heat and exertion increase swelling and bruising and can make a bleb more visible for longer.

Sun protection applies throughout, with shade and a broad-spectrum sunscreen in Singapore's year-round sun; sunscreen can be applied lightly over the points once they have closed. Strong actives such as retinoids and exfoliating acids are paused as advised and restarted when the skin feels ordinary. Flying is usually fine once the bumps have settled; the flying after treatment page covers what to carry and when to message.

How should you plan Profhilo around work and events?

Profhilo has a short visible phase and a long quiet one. Plan around the bumps: a treatment on a day when you can avoid close-up meetings, photographs and heat until they have flattened, and allow for a possible bruise to fade. The change in hydration and elasticity that the treatment is planned for develops gradually afterwards, so booking it shortly before an event gives you the visible phase without the benefit; the skin booster comparison explains how the timing differs between products.

Any second placement is timed at review rather than fixed in advance, and review is where any point that behaved differently from the others is examined. Where earlier non-dissolvable filler sits in the area, what is already in the tissue is established first, because layering over it complicates any later correction. Whether Profhilo is the right injectable for your skin, and what the recovery is likely to look like on your face, is decided at consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. The product is placed as a measured bolus at each of the Bio Aesthetic Points, so a small raised bleb at each point straight afterwards is what the technique produces, not a complication. The blebs flatten as the hyaluronic acid spreads through the tissue and the skin looks ordinary once they have gone. A lump that remains after the others have dispersed is different and is examined.

Long enough to be obvious when you leave and noticeably softer by the first evening in most people, and gone before any bruise has finished fading; thin skin and good light show them for longer. No figure is promised because dispersal varies with the area, the skin and the person. If a bump is still firm once the others have gone, send a photograph.

No. Unlike a collagen stimulator, Profhilo is designed to spread on its own from each point through the tissue, and pressing on a bolus moves it in a direction that was not planned. Leave the points alone, avoid sleeping face-down on them, and leave facials and facial massage until the skin feels ordinary.

Once the injection points have closed and the bumps have flattened, make-up can be applied gently without pressing, and a bruise can be covered at that stage. Keeping the points clean while they are open is the reason for the pause, not the product itself. Sunscreen follows the same rule, applied lightly once the points have closed.

If pain at a point increases rather than settles, if redness spreads outwards rather than fading, if a point is warm, if swelling persists after the other points have settled, if a blister or open area appears, or if any patch of skin turns dusky, pale or blotchy. The last is an emergency. Send a photograph to the clinic during clinic hours; the complication care page lists what goes to an emergency department.
