What Is Masseter BTX?
Masseter BTX involves the injection of botulinum toxin (Dysport or Botox) into the masseter muscles — the large jaw muscles on either side of the face. By reducing the contractile activity of the masseter, BTX causes the muscle to atrophy over 3–4 weeks, reducing lower face width and creating a slimmer facial shape.
Dysport vs. Botox for Jaw Slimming
Dr Sin Yong primarily uses Dysport for jaw slimming, typically 16–20 units of Botox equivalents per side. Dysport's slightly faster onset means results visible within 7–10 days. Full masseter atrophy is evident at 4–6 weeks.
How Many Sessions Are Needed?
Most patients see significant slimming after a single session. Repeat treatments typically needed every 4–6 months initially. As the masseter atrophies progressively with repeated treatment, the interval between sessions extends. Some patients require only annual maintenance after 2–3 rounds.
Face Slimming Beyond the Masseter
For patients where masseter reduction alone is insufficient: chin filler adds vertical length and reduces relative width; jawline filler creates a more angular jaw that reads as narrower; Time Freeze Laser LCLR lipo-remodelling reduces facial fat deposits.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
Masseter BTX is most effective when apparent facial width is primarily due to muscle bulk rather than bone structure. Patients with wide jaw bones will not achieve full width reduction from BTX alone. Dr Sin Yong assesses the primary cause of facial width at consultation.

Masseter Dysport/BTX is the most effective non-surgical face slimming treatment. Combined with chin filler, the V-shape face result is achieved. For fat-driven lower face heaviness, 4K Body Lift offers permanent reduction.
Visible jaw slimming requires 2–3 sessions spaced 4–6 months apart. The masseter progressively reduces in bulk with each session.
Mild changes in bite strength may occur for 2–4 weeks as the masseter adapts. Normal eating is maintained throughout treatment.
With sustained treatment, masseter reduction becomes progressively more sustained. Stopping treatment allows the muscle to gradually regain bulk over 6–12 months.
