Mole removal cost is set by the method the dermatoscope points to, CO2 laser, radiofrequency, shave or excision, the size, depth and site of each mole, how many are treated in one sitting, and whether tissue is sent for histology. Singapore's rules restrict how fees may be advertised, so no figure appears here; Dr Sin Yong gives a written quote after scoping each mole on Orchard Road.

Mole removal cost factors begin with a diagnosis, since every mole is examined under a dermatoscope before any method is chosen. A flat mole may suit layered CO2 laser, a raised one radiofrequency or shave, and an atypical one is excised for histology or referred. Moles on the nose, eyelid or lip margin are planned for the mark they leave, and laboratory fees are itemised, never skipped.
Singapore's rules for medical advertising restrict how doctors may publish fees, and with mole removal a figure before examination would skip the step that matters. Every mole at this practice is examined under a dermatoscope before anything touches it, because the pattern beneath the surface decides whether a mole is a cosmetic item at all. A benign-pattern mole is removed by the method that suits its type, depth and site; a mole with atypical features is excised to preserve tissue for histology, or referred, and is never ablated. The method cannot be known, and so the fee cannot be set, until the scope has been used. The practice-wide rules are on how fees are quoted.

The method follows the dermatoscope, and each carries different time, consumables and aftercare. A flat junctional mole, with pigment sitting high in the skin, suits CO2 laser ablation in fine layers. A raised dermal mole may suit radiofrequency, which shaves and seals in one motion, or shave removal under local anaesthetic; shaved tissue can be sent for histology. A mole with asymmetry, an irregular border, colour variation, a size that is growing or a change over time is not ablated: it is excised in a way that preserves the whole lesion for a pathologist, or referred.
So the quote for a mole on the cheek and the quote for a mole that worries the scope are quotes for different procedures, not different sizes of the same one. Lookalikes are separated at the same examination: a skin tag, a seborrhoeic keratosis and a cherry angioma are each planned and quoted on their own terms rather than as a mole.
“Do not let anyone quote you for a mole they have not scoped. The scope decides the method, and the method decides the fee, in that order.”
Dr Sin YongOn how mole removal is quoted
Size and depth decide how much work one mole takes. A small flat mole treated in fine layers is a short procedure; a larger or deeper mole takes longer, may need more passes, and leaves a larger site to heal. Site matters twice. On the face, a mole on the nose, the eyelid or the lip margin heals in full view, so the mark left behind is planned as carefully as the removal. Elsewhere, the chest, shoulders, upper back and jawline are the sites where a personal or family tendency to keloid matters, reviewed before any method is chosen, as the keloid treatment page explains. Any removal leaves a mark, usually flatter and paler than the mole it replaced; a result with no evidence at all is not what is being quoted.

| What the dermatoscope finds | Method planned | What moves the fee |
|---|---|---|
| Flat mole, benign pattern | CO2 laser in fine layers | Size; site on the face; number treated |
| Raised dermal mole, benign pattern | Radiofrequency or shave under local anaesthetic | Size and depth; whether shaved tissue goes for histology |
| Atypical or changing mole | Excision preserving tissue, or referral | A different procedure; histology always itemised |
| Several benign moles | Treated in one sitting where sites and aftercare allow | Each mole itemised by its own method and size |
| Not a mole: tag, age wart, angioma | Planned on its own terms | Quoted as that lesion, not as a mole |
Several scoped, benign moles can commonly be treated in a single sitting, and the number is agreed at consultation from their sites and the aftercare involved. Each mole is itemised by its own method and size rather than bundled, so a quote for three moles shows three lines. Local anaesthetic, dressing and written wound-care instructions are part of the procedure.
Histology is the line that must never be skipped to make a figure smaller. Where the scope calls for it, the removed tissue is sent for examination rather than vaporised, and the laboratory fee is itemised. Choosing a method because it is cheaper, when the pattern says the pathologist needs the tissue, destroys the information a doctor would need on the rare occasion a lesion is not what it seems. Review confirms the site has settled and is where any histology result is discussed; a mark that changes or a mole that regrows at the base is re-examined rather than simply treated again. The consultation is a medical visit with its own fee.
Not on the quote: a promise of no mark, removal of any mole that has not been scoped, and any treatment the assessment does not support. The consultation can end with the advice to leave a benign mole alone and photograph it for comparison, or with referral for a mole that belongs with a dermatologist.
When comparing with a quote from elsewhere, including a beauty-salon cautery or an over-the-counter mole pen, ask whether a dermatoscope was used, which method is proposed for each mole and why, whether histology is available for that method, who performs the removal, and whether review is included. A lower figure that comes without a scope is not a lower figure for the same procedure. Healing after each method is on the mole removal aftercare page, and the questions worth asking first are on the mole removal questions guide.

They are different procedures for different moles, not two tiers of one service. CO2 laser suits a flat, benign-pattern mole; excision is for a mole whose pattern means the whole lesion must reach a pathologist. The scope decides which applies, and choosing laser to save a fee where histology is needed destroys the tissue that matters.
Each mole is itemised by its own method and size, so a quote for several moles shows a line for each. Several scoped, benign moles can often be treated in one sitting, with the number agreed at consultation from their sites and the aftercare involved.
Where the dermatoscope calls for it, the removed tissue is sent for examination and the laboratory fee is itemised on the quote. It is never skipped to make the figure smaller, because that is the step that catches the rare lesion that is not what it seems.
