How a facial fits into a wider skin plan is explained under facial treatment in Singapore.
Whether a facial can lift, and what facial lifting can and cannot change, is explained separately.
Main guide Hydrafacial Singapore — what it treats, who it suits, sessions, downtime and what decides the cost, by Dr Sin Yong.

Hydrafacial aftercare is light, because the treatment works in the outer layer of the skin and does not create a wound. Leave the skin bare for the rest of the day where you can, use a gentle fragrance-free routine, pause retinoids, exfoliating acids and scrubs until the clinic says, and protect the skin from sun. Mild redness and tightness are expected; stinging that increases, blisters or a rash are not.
The table sets out Hydrafacial aftercare from the moment you leave to the point where your usual routine restarts. Each row lists what is expected, what to do, what to avoid and the signs that mean you should message the clinic.
| Phase | What is expected | What to do | What to avoid | Message or call if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Straight after | Mild redness, a fresh or slightly tight feel; sometimes a little pinkness where extraction was done | Leave the skin bare where possible; a plain moisturiser if it feels tight; sunscreen before going out | Touching or picking at the skin; make-up if the skin is red; saunas, steam and hot yoga | Stinging or redness that increases rather than settles |
| That evening and the next morning | Redness fading; skin may feel slightly dry or sensitive to products | Gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and moisturiser; make-up once redness has faded | Retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs, peels, at-home devices | Blisters, crusting or weeping; a cold sore; a spreading rash; swelling of the face or lips |
| As the skin settles | Skin looks ordinary; a few small spots can appear where pores were cleared | Restart actives when the clinic advises; sunscreen every morning | Squeezing spots; starting a new active product while the skin is still sensitive | Spots that are large, painful or spreading; a dark mark appearing |
If the Hydrafacial was preparation before RF microneedling or laser, or support after a more intensive treatment, the aftercare for that treatment takes priority; the timing between the two is set in your plan.
“After a Hydrafacial, the kindest thing you can do for the skin is nothing extra. It has just been exfoliated; it does not need a second round at home.”

Hydrafacial aftercare is simple because the treatment stays in the epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin. Its three steps, cleanse and peel with a mild glycolic and salicylic acid solution, extract and hydrate with vortex suction, and fuse and protect with serums, loosen and lift surface debris without ablating tissue or placing anything in the dermis. A 2024 imaging study using line-field confocal optical coherence tomography in eight volunteers saw a smoother outer layer after hydradermabrasion but no visible change in dermal collagen, which fits a treatment that conditions the surface rather than remodelling beneath it.

What the skin has had is a gentle acid exposure, suction and extraction. So the aftercare is about not adding irritation to a freshly exfoliated surface: no further exfoliation, no strong actives, no heat that adds redness, and sun protection while the barrier settles. At this practice the acid step is reduced or left out for sensitive skin, and the serums and boosters are chosen after the skin is examined, so your written instructions may differ slightly from the general advice here. What each step does is explained on Hydrafacial Singapore.
Make-up is better left off for the rest of the day where possible, so that pores that have just been cleared are not filled straight away, and it can go back on once any redness has faded. If you must wear something, a mineral sunscreen with a light tint over intact skin is the gentler choice. Remove it with a mild cleanser rather than a scrub or cleansing brush.
For skincare, a gentle cleanser, a fragrance-free moisturiser and sunscreen are all the skin needs at first. Retinoids, glycolic, lactic and salicylic acid products, vitamin C at high strength, scrubs and peel pads are paused until the clinic says the skin is ready, because the surface has just been exfoliated. Light exercise is fine; if the skin feels sensitive, skip hot classes, saunas and steam until it does not, because heat and sweat sting freshly treated skin and add redness. Swimming in a chlorinated pool waits until the skin no longer feels tight.
A few small spots after a Hydrafacial are possible, particularly in congested or acne-prone skin, where extraction loosens material deeper in a pore that then surfaces. They are usually small and settle without treatment; do not squeeze them. Large, painful or spreading spots, or a flare of inflamed acne, are a reason to message the clinic, because inflamed acne needs medical treatment rather than another facial, as explained on acne treatment.
The evidence for Hydrafacial is small and focused on the surface. A 2008 randomised trial of hydradermabrasion in 20 women and a 2015 split-face randomised trial of 23 women, in which a 4% acid solution applied with suction was compared with the acid alone, both measured changes in the skin after treatment, the second focusing on pores, whiteheads and blackheads. Neither tested what happens when actives or sun are added straight afterwards, which is why the advice here is conservative. Pigment change is uncommon, but in Fitzpatrick III to V skin any irritation followed by sun can leave a dark mark, so sunscreen and shade matter more than any serum. How Hydrafacial compares with water peels and crystal abrasion is on Hydrafacial vs Aquapeel vs microdermabrasion.

Swelling of the lips, tongue or throat with any difficulty breathing is an emergency: go to a hospital emergency department straight away. The complication care page lists every sign. Most messages after a Hydrafacial are about a patch of dryness or a small spot, and you will be told plainly whether it is expected. Whether a Hydrafacial is repeated, combined with another treatment or not advised at all is decided at review, from how the skin responded.

Leave the skin bare for the rest of the day where possible, do not touch or pick at it, and pause retinoids, exfoliating acids and scrubs until the clinic advises. Avoid saunas, steam and direct sun while the skin feels sensitive.
Make-up is better left off for the rest of the day where possible, so freshly cleared pores are not filled straight away. It can go back on once any redness has faded. If you need cover sooner, a light tinted mineral sunscreen over intact skin is gentler than foundation, and it should be removed with a mild cleanser rather than a scrub or brush.
A few small spots can appear after a Hydrafacial in congested or acne-prone skin, because extraction loosens material deeper in a pore that then comes to the surface. They usually settle on their own; do not squeeze them. Large, painful or spreading spots, or a flare of inflamed acne, should be reported, since inflamed acne needs medical treatment rather than another facial.
Retinol and other retinoids, exfoliating acids and high-strength vitamin C are restarted when the clinic tells you the skin is ready. The surface has just been exfoliated with a mild acid solution and suction, so adding strong actives too soon can sting and add redness. Until then, a gentle cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen are enough.
Light exercise is fine after a Hydrafacial. If the skin feels sensitive, leave hot classes, saunas, steam and long sessions in the sun until it does not, because heat and sweat sting freshly treated skin and add to redness. Cleanse gently after exercise and reapply sunscreen if you are going outdoors.
Mild redness and a feeling of tightness are expected after a Hydrafacial and settle as the skin recovers. Redness or stinging that increases rather than fades, blisters, crusting, a cold sore, a spreading rash or swelling of the face or lips are not expected; message the clinic, and for lip, tongue or throat swelling with breathing difficulty go to an emergency department.
