What to expect at tattoo removal with Dr Sin Yong is an evaluation first, with no treatment on the consultation day. T2 Laser Tattoo Removal on the DEKA TORO then follows a written plan: eye protection, cooling or topical anaesthetic as planned, a sharp snap with each pulse, white frosting, then redness, blisters and scabs, and a review.

Short answerThe first visit is an evaluation, not a treatment. Each later session follows the written plan, and the next one waits until the skin has healed and the response has been reviewed. This page sits under laser tattoo removal in Singapore; what to do afterwards is on tattoo removal aftercare.

What to expect at tattoo removal before the first visit

What to expect at tattoo removal starts before you arrive. Most people begin with a short WhatsApp message and a photograph of the tattoo. A photograph helps with planning the visit, but it cannot show how deep or dense the ink sits or whether the skin beneath is scarred, so no plan or fee is set from it. That is decided in person, by Dr Sin Yong, who performs every treatment himself.

Before you book

Who suits laser removal at all, and who should wait, is on am I suitable for tattoo removal.

The tattoo evaluation and the test area

The consultation is an evaluation of the tattoo and of your skin, and you are not treated on the same day. Dr Sin Yong looks at each ink colour, how dense and deep the ink appears, where the tattoo sits, whether it is layered or a cover-up, and whether the original tattooing left scarring. He assesses your skin type in that area and takes a history of medicines, sun exposure and scarring. A small tattoo where excision would suit better is referred to a plastic surgery specialist rather than lasered.

You leave with a written plan and quote: which wavelength is matched to which colour, whether a test area comes first, and how review will decide each next step. No number of sessions is fixed in advance. Consent is taken with time to decide.

When a test area comes first

Cosmetic tattoos on the brows, eyeliner or lips often contain iron oxide or titanium dioxide, which can turn darker or grey under laser instead of fading. A small test area is treated and reviewed before anything more is planned; the detail is on eyebrow embroidery removal. In medium and darker skin a test area is often treated first as well, so the skin's response can be read before the whole tattoo is treated.

“Your first visit is for the tattoo to be read, not lasered. I want to know every ink in it, and how your skin heals, before I choose a single wavelength.”

What does tattoo removal feel like on the DEKA TORO?

On the day, the plan is confirmed and the skin is cleansed. Protective eyewear goes on, because laser light can injure the eye, and internal eye shields are used where the tattoo is near the eye. Cooling or a topical anaesthetic is used as planned, according to the size and site of the tattoo and your tolerance. Dr Sin Yong then delivers T2 Laser Tattoo Removal himself, matching the emission to each ink colour.

Ink colourEmission on the DEKA TOROPulse regime
Black, dark blue, brown1064 nmNanosecond (Q-switched)
Red, orange, purple532 nmNanosecond (Q-switched)
Green and blue785 nmPicosecond
Yellow and whitePoorly absorbed by most wavelengthsAssessed case by case

Most people describe each pulse as a sharp snap against the skin, followed by heat and tenderness. Comfort varies with the area, the ink and the settings used, and telling Dr Sin Yong what you feel is part of the session. As the laser passes, the treated ink turns white. That frosting is gas released in the dermis, not ink leaving, and it is the endpoint the settings are chosen for. The TORO's handpieces include square spots, which DEKA suggests for tattoo removal so that passes sit side by side without gaps or overlap. What the platform is, and how it differs from other picosecond lasers, is on the DEKA TORO.

Straight after tattoo removal: what is normal and what needs a call

Straight after tattoo removal the frosting fades and the area becomes red, swollen and tender, with pinpoint bleeding where the ink was dense. Swelling can be marked on a forearm, wrist or ankle, and a tattoo over a joint can feel stiff. A cool compress eases it. The area is cleaned, dressed with ointment and a light covering, and you leave with written aftercare, which takes priority over any web page.

What is normal

What needs a message the same day

Swelling of the lips, tongue or throat with difficulty breathing is an emergency: go to the nearest emergency department. The healing sequence, phase by phase, is on tattoo removal downtime.

What happens at the tattoo removal review?

Fragmented ink is cleared by your immune system gradually between visits, so the review is timed to read the skin and the ink, not to repeat treatment by default. Dr Sin Yong first checks that the skin has healed fully and looks for any patch darker or paler than the skin around it, or any change in texture. Then he compares the tattoo with your record photographs, colour by colour.

The next step comes from that reading: another session at the same wavelengths, a change of wavelength or energy for a colour that has lagged, a pause while a pigment change settles, or a stop when the aim, such as fading for a cover-up, has been met. Complete clearance cannot be promised for any tattoo. How the response is read is set out on tattoo removal results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most people describe each pulse as a sharp snap against the skin, followed by heat and tenderness. Cooling or a topical anaesthetic is planned according to the size and site of the tattoo and your tolerance, and eye protection is worn throughout. Comfort varies with the area, the ink and the settings, and the treated ink turns white briefly as the laser passes.

No. The first visit is an evaluation of the ink colours, density, location, layering, scarring and your skin type, with a history of medicines and scarring. You leave with a written plan and quote, and consent is taken with time to decide. Where a test area is planned, for cosmetic pigment or darker skin, it is reviewed before the wider tattoo is treated.

Cooling or a topical anaesthetic is used as planned, depending on the size and site of the tattoo and your tolerance. Numbing takes the edge off the surface sensation, and the sharp snap of each pulse is still felt to some degree. Do not apply numbing products you have bought yourself before the visit without asking first; the plan says what is used.

A test area reads how the ink and your skin respond before the whole tattoo is treated. It comes first for cosmetic brow, eyeliner and lip tattoos, because iron oxide or titanium dioxide pigment can turn darker or grey under laser, and it is often used in medium and darker skin. If the test area responds badly, the plan changes before anything more is done.

The area is dressed after the session, and redness, swelling and later blisters and scabs need a light covering while they heal, so plan around that visible phase. Work that soaks the area, rubs it or exposes it to strong sun is harder in the early phase. Swimming, saunas and sun on the area wait until the skin has closed.
