Facial fat grafting moves your own fat, usually from the abdomen or thighs, into the cheeks, temples or under the eyes. It appeals because nothing foreign is injected. The part that is talked about less is that only some of the fat survives, how much is hard to predict, and what does survive is living tissue that cannot be dissolved. Knowing that before you decide changes the questions worth asking.
If the result is already too full, see too much fat grafting: what can be done and fat graft or filler.
Fat grafting can restore volume where it has been lost: hollow temples, flattened cheeks, a deep tear trough or a thin face after weight loss. Because the graft is your own tissue, the surviving fat feels natural and there is no product to break down over time.
It cannot lift tissue that has descended, tighten loose skin or reliably sculpt a precise shape in one session. And because only part of the fat survives, the final volume is not known on the day of treatment. That uncertainty is the single most important thing to understand before deciding.
Fat is placed generously to allow for the portion that will not survive. When more survives than expected, the face is fuller than planned; when less survives, a second session is often offered. Repeated sessions add up, and a review of facial fat grafting complications notes that overcorrection is seen more often after repeated grafting than after one session.
Grafted fat also behaves like the fat around it once it has a blood supply. Reports describe grafted fat enlarging with later weight gain, so a face that looks balanced at six months can look heavier years later. Across 103 studies, graft hypertrophy made up about 7% of reported adverse events and contour irregularities about one in five.

The cost of facial fat grafting in Singapore depends on the number of areas treated, the harvest site, the setting (hospital or approved surgical centre), the type of anaesthesia, the surgeon’s fees and whether more than one session is planned. It is worth asking what a second session would cost, and what correction would involve if too much survives, before comparing quotes.
Grafted fat cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase. When a fat transfer has left the face puffy, heavy or lumpy, the options are reduction rather than dissolving. Dr Sin Yong maps fat versus filler with ultrasound, then reduces excess superficial graft from the surface with the lipo-remodelling arm of Time Freeze Laser LCLR®, adding VF Lift – Vertical Facelift for patients who want more lift or contour. Microliposuction is the surgical route for a large, stable excess. The full approach is on fat grafting correction in Singapore.
If the aim is lift rather than volume, energy-based lifting may suit better than adding volume; if the aim is volume in a lean face, VF Lift – Vertical Facelift restores lean, hollow areas by stimulating the fat’s own regenerative capacity without injections. An assessment that separates descent, laxity and volume loss usually shows which problem you actually have.
“The day of a fat graft is not the day you see the result. The result is whatever survives, and that is worth planning for before the first session.”

The fat that survives behaves like living fat and can persist for years, changing with weight and ageing. The portion that does not survive is absorbed in the first months, which is why the final result is not known on the day.
Not with an enzyme. Hyaluronidase dissolves hyaluronic acid filler only. Excess grafted fat is reduced rather than dissolved, either from the surface with Time Freeze Laser LCLR® or surgically with microliposuction.
Swelling settles over weeks and the graft continues to establish over the following months. Most surgeons judge the result after several months before discussing further sessions.
They do different things. Filler is predictable and, if hyaluronic acid, reversible; fat is your own tissue but less predictable and not dissolvable. The right choice depends on the area, the amount needed and your tolerance for uncertainty.
Surgeons, because the fat is harvested by liposuction. Ask whether your surgeon is accredited under the MOH liposuction framework and where the procedure will be done. Dr Sin Yong does not perform fat grafting.
