What TCA CROSS is used for, and what comes after it, is explained on the page for ice pick scars.
Main guide Acne scar treatment Singapore — what it treats, who it suits, sessions, downtime and what decides the cost, by Dr Sin Yong.
The same rules for crusts apply after laser; read post-laser scab care.

After TCA CROSS, each treated scar turns white for a short time, then darkens and forms a small crust over several days. Let the crusts come away on their own, keep the skin clean and moisturised, avoid make-up on the spots for a few days, and protect from sun strictly, because Asian skin can darken after any injury. Pinkness at each point can last weeks.
This table sets TCA CROSS aftercare out by phase: straight after treatment while each scar is frosted, the early phase while the points darken and crust, and the settling phase once the crusts have gone and the points are pink. Each row lists what is expected, what to do, what to avoid and the signs that mean you should send a message rather than wait for the next visit.
| Phase | What is expected | What to do | What to avoid | Message or call if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Straight after | A white frost at each treated scar that fades; redness and a sting around each point; mild swelling | Cleanse gently and pat dry; apply the moisturiser or ointment you were given; shade and a hat outdoors | Rubbing or scrubbing the points; make-up over them; hot showers on the face, saunas and sweating exercise; actives and acids | A blister; a point that is spreading wider than the scar treated; severe pain |
| Early phase | Each point darkens and forms a small crust; itching as the crusts lift | Keep the points moisturised; make-up around the spots but not over them; sleep face-up on a clean pillowcase | Picking or scrubbing crusts, which raises the risk of marks; peels, retinoids, scrubs or brushes; facials or other treatments on the same skin | Crusts that are thick, yellow or oozing; redness spreading between the points; a cluster of small painful sores |
| Settling | Pink points after the crusts have come away; the scar base is assessed at review, not from the crust | Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen, reapplied outdoors; attend the review before the next pass or the next method is planned | Deliberate sun; treating any darkening yourself with stronger brightening creams; having other scar work on the same points elsewhere | A point healing noticeably darker or paler than the surrounding skin; a point that is widening or becoming a dent; a raised or firm area |
Why ice-pick scars are the target is explained on TCA CROSS for acne scars; where it sits in a staged plan with subcision and resurfacing is on acne scar treatment Singapore; what each stage looks like is on acne scar treatment downtime.

The white frost at each scar fades within hours. Over the next few days, each point darkens and forms a small crust. Cleanse gently, pat dry and apply the moisturiser or ointment you were given. Do not pick or scrub the crusts; picking raises the risk of marks. Make-up can go around the spots but not over them until the crusts have gone.
Once the crusts have come away, the points are often pink for a few weeks. Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen and shade lower the risk of post-inflammatory darkening, which is more common in medium and darker skin. TCA CROSS is usually repeated over a course, weeks apart, and combined with other methods for other scar types; see TCA CROSS and acne scar treatment.
Questions after treatment come back through WhatsApp at +65 8023 7170 during clinic hours (Monday to Friday 10am to 8pm, Saturday 11am to 3pm, Singapore time). Anything that is getting worse rather than better, a blister or open area, or fever needs to be seen the same day, wherever you are.
Usually several days to a week. Let them fall away on their own.
Around the spots, yes; over them, wait until the crusts have gone.
Post-inflammatory darkening can occur, especially in darker skin. Strict sun protection reduces the risk.
