These are ten questions people typed into Google before they reached this site in October 2026, kept in their own wording: does HIFU melt fat, what retinol purging looks like, what an LDM facial is, how many HIFU shots a face needs, and six more. Each has a short answer of about a paragraph and a link to the page that covers it in full.

How these questions were chosen

Every question below is worded the way people typed it into Google before they reached this site in October 2026, taken from the site's Search Console queries. Ten were chosen because they are genuine questions rather than names of treatments, and because a page on the site already answers each one in full.

The answers add nothing new. Each is a short summary of a page that Dr Sin Yong has written or medically reviewed, and each ends with a link to that page, where the detail, the limits and the references are. Where a question touches on a risk, the short answer says when to see a doctor; it does not replace an assessment of your own skin.

Does HIFU melt fat?

Not by design on the face. HIFU's face cartridges aim focused ultrasound at the SMAS and the dermis, not at the fat between them. Fat is lost by accident when a focal point set deeper than the tissue is thick lands in subcutaneous fat, or when lines are stacked over one another, and coagulated fat does not return. Lean, volume-depleted faces are at greater risk. Palpating each zone and keeping the deep 4.5 mm cartridge to areas with enough tissue is how that risk is reduced. The full answer is in Will HIFU melt face fat?.

“The way a question is typed tells me what someone is worried about. A good answer deals with the worry, not just the words.”

What does retinol purging look like?

It looks like your own acne arriving sooner: small closed comedones, blackheads and some small papules, in the areas where you usually break out. A retinoid speeds up the shedding of cells inside the follicle, so micro-comedones that were already forming come to the surface earlier, and it settles as the skin adjusts. Spots in new areas, burning, spreading redness or deep painful lumps are not purging; they suggest irritation, a product-driven breakout or another diagnosis, and call for adjustment or assessment. How to tell the two apart is set out in retinol purging vs breakout.

What is LDM facial?

An LDM facial is a non-thermal, dual-frequency ultrasound treatment. LDM stands for local dynamic micro-massage: the handpiece alternates rapidly between two megahertz frequencies, creating a micro-massage within the skin rather than heat. It is directed at dehydrated, sensitive or reactive skin and at recovery after laser or injectable treatment. It is not a lifting, tightening, resurfacing or pigment treatment, and because it is unfocused, low-intensity ultrasound it works in the opposite way to HIFU. Who it suits, and what it cannot do, is on LDM facial Singapore.

How many shots of HIFU for face?

There is no fixed number; the count is an output of the plan. A HIFU shot is one point of focused-ultrasound heat at a set depth, and a count on its own does not state the depth, the energy at each point, the cartridge, the area covered, or whether the device fires single shots at all; micro-pulsed platforms lay energy along lines instead. A count from one clinic therefore cannot be compared with another. The useful questions are which depth goes into each zone and who maps the plan. See HIFU shots explained.

White spots after laser treatment: what are they?

White spots after laser treatment are usually post-inflammatory hypopigmentation: pigment cells in the treated skin have been suppressed, and they can recover. That differs from idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis, the small white spots that come with age and sun and do not repigment on their own, and from vitiligo. Dermoscopic assessment comes first, because laser can encourage pigment cells that remain but cannot replace lost ones, so where they have gone, repigmentation is limited. Daily sun protection stays part of the plan. Each type is explained on white spots after laser.

What not to do after pico laser?

Do not pick the fine crusts that form over treated spots; let them shed on their own. Leave out scrubs, cleansing brushes, peels, retinoids and exfoliating acids until the surface is intact and no longer pink, and avoid facials, extractions, microneedling or other laser treatment over the same area. On the day itself, skip hot showers on the face, saunas, heavy sweating and alcohol. Do not treat new darkening yourself with stronger brightening products: it is a reason for review. What applies to each mode is in pico laser aftercare.

Tethered scar meaning: what is a tethered scar?

A tethered scar is a depressed scar held down from below by a fibrous band that anchors the skin to deeper tissue, so the surface cannot sit level however much it is resurfaced. The stretch test shows it: a scar that flattens completely when the skin is pulled apart is a surface problem, while one that stays pinned, or deepens when you smile, is tethered. Rolling scars are almost always tethered. The band is usually released with subcision before filler, laser or RF microneedling. The sequence is explained under tethered scar.

What is monopolar radiofrequency?

Monopolar radiofrequency is radiofrequency in which current flows from a single treatment tip, through the body, to a return pad placed elsewhere. Resistance in the tissue turns the current into heat that spreads through the dermis and the fibrous tissue beneath it as a volume, while the surface is cooled, prompting collagen contraction and remodelling. Thermage FLX and the CLASSYS Volnewmer are monopolar platforms, and Volnewmer is the device behind the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift. It is not focused ultrasound. The glossary entry is monopolar radiofrequency.

When do Sculptra nodules appear?

Some lumps after Sculptra are felt early, within weeks, where product has gathered in one place; these early papules are usually small and not tender. Later nodules are firmer and can appear many months after treatment, as a collagen and inflammatory response around concentrated particles. Sculptra is poly-L-lactic acid and cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase, so management depends on whether a lump is product, inflammation or overcorrection, and assessment, often with ultrasound, comes first. A red, warm or tender lump needs a doctor the same day. See Sculptra lumps and nodules.

Can microneedling reduce pore size?

Not in the literal sense: a pore is the fixed opening of a follicle and its oil gland, and nothing closes it. What RF microneedling changes is the collagen collar around the opening, so the wall can be more firmly supported and cast less shadow. That suits cheek pores stretched by lost support, often elongated in side light, in oily or acne-prone skin. It does not change pore count, gland size or oil output, the oil-driven pores of the nose do not respond, and blocked pores belong to the acne pathway first. See RF microneedling for pores.

Frequently Asked Questions

They come from Google Search Console, which shows the searches that led people to pages on this site. The wording is kept as typed, including the grammar. Questions that were really treatment names, brand names or clinic names were left out, and a question was kept when an existing page already answers it in full, so that every short answer can point to the page it summarises.

No. Each answer is a short summary of a general page, written for people in general. Whether a treatment suits you, what a lump or a white spot is, or how your skin is healing depends on an examination. Where a question involves a possible complication, such as a red, warm or tender lump, the answer says when to see a doctor.

Because a paragraph cannot carry the limits, the exceptions and the references that a full page does. The short answer is there to tell you whether the page is the one you need. The linked page is the one that has been medically reviewed in full, and it is the one to read before making any decision about treatment.

Because they are copied from what people typed, such as how many shots of HIFU for face. Searches are short and often leave out words. Keeping the original wording makes the page easier to find for the next person who types the same thing, and the answer underneath restates the question in full before answering it.
