If you are travelling for treatment, it helps to know the rules the practice works under. Every doctor practising in Singapore must be registered with the Singapore Medical Council, and the register can be searched publicly. Aesthetic procedures performed by doctors are governed by the SMC’s Guidelines on Aesthetic Practices for Doctors (2016 edition), which set out approved procedures, and require doctors without the relevant experience to obtain Certificates of Competence through SMC-accredited courses for certain procedures. Conditionally registered doctors may not practise aesthetic medicine.
Devices, products and clinics
The Health Sciences Authority regulates medical devices, including energy-based platforms and fillers, and therapeutic products such as botulinum toxin. Clinics providing outpatient medical services are licensed by the Ministry of Health under the Healthcare Services Act. When comparing options across countries, it is reasonable to ask which device or product is being used and whether it is registered where you are being treated.
