Choosing between radiofrequency and laser for intimate rejuvenation — illustrative image, not a patient

Dr Sin Yong performs two non-surgical intimate protocols. The GF Lift – Girl’s Friend Lift uses monopolar radiofrequency inside the vagina and on the outer labia. The G Lift uses MonaLisa Touch on the DEKA Tetra Pro fractional CO2 laser on the vaginal lining. This page sets out how they differ.

Short answerThe GF Lift heats tissue as a volume with radiofrequency and also treats the outer labia; it leaves the surface intact. The G Lift places microscopic laser columns in the vaginal lining and is often considered where dryness or thinning around menopause is part of the picture. Some women need one, some both; the examination decides.

How they differ

Radiofrequency current meets resistance in tissue and produces heat throughout a volume; collagen contracts and, over the following weeks, is remodelled. A fractional CO2 laser instead vaporises tiny columns in the vaginal lining, leaving untreated tissue between them, and the healing response is directed at the thickness and moisture of the lining as well as its collagen.

“The question is not which machine is better. It is whether your concern is mostly the tissue, the lining, or the muscles underneath, and the examination answers that.”

Dr Sin YongOn choosing between the GF Lift and the G Lift

Choosing between them

The choice follows the examination, informed by Dr Sin Yong’s Professional Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. Laxity with a healthy, moist lining often points to the GF Lift, especially if the outer labia have loosened too. Laxity with dryness, burning or discomfort around menopause often points to the G Lift. Some women have both, and the two can be planned in sequence. Prolapse and pelvic floor weakness are dealt with separately, and the evidence for both energy approaches is explained honestly before anything is decided.

Frequently Asked Questions

Neither is better for everyone. Radiofrequency heats tissue as a volume and leaves the surface intact; fractional CO2 laser works on the lining and is often considered where dryness is part of the picture. The examination decides which suits, and sometimes both are used.

Yes, where the examination suggests both laxity and changes in the lining. They are planned in sequence rather than on the same day.

MonaLisa Touch is DEKA’s vaginal laser treatment, delivered here on the DEKA Tetra Pro fractional CO2 platform; the G Lift is Dr Sin Yong’s protocol built on it.
